Sonic Drive-In — Restaurant in Plano

It's fast food, so I don't expect much, but I do kind of expect their new specials that they push so heavily via print advertising and those awful TV commercials to be at least halfway decent. They're not. The new cheesebread hot dogs are pretty gross, and all their non-traditional seasonal milk shakes that they now offer for half price after 8pm are definitely worth passing on.

However, this location does hold very near and dear to my heart because I've been coming here since middle school (back before the days of Yelp), and for the most part, they've done all things right. The stuff that they have on their standard menu is done well -- for fast food. Their cheeseburgers, chicken strip sandwiches, corn dogs, chili-cheese dogs, and tater tots are all Sonic staples that they hit right on the nail. Oh, and don't forget the lemon-berry slush. Crucial lemon berry slush.

They do drive pretty sweet promotions though. Even though I railed on their seasonal milkshakes, snagging a vanilla, strawberry, or chocolate one for half-price after 8pm is a pretty sweet deal. Then of course, there's their famous 2pm-4pm half-price drink happy hour that you really can't go wrong in. But now they also order $0.99 happy hour snacks too! You can choose from onion rings, tater tots, cheese sticks, and fries now, just for $0.99! Not bad, Sonic....

It was raining and a dismal day out. But I must say that this visit brightened my day. Mackenzie (sp?) was my server and she did a great job. She was pleasant and efficient. I asked her about a menu item I saw on the video menu board and she was quite helpful. Also, the food I ordered came out well at this location on Coit Rd in Plano. In fact, it was much better than my local Sonic on Inwood Rd in Dallas, where the wraps were messy and haphazardly put together. One thing I didn't like was the cheese content on the mini Frito Cheese Wraps. There just isn't enough to taste it, let alone know there is actually cheese on it. This is a shame. Since Taco Bell discontinued all things chili, I have been looking for a replacement for TB's "Frito Burrito", which now has NO chili. I hope Sonic does better in this regard. If so, I intend to be a loyal customer for years to come. The value menu double cheeseburger was small, but tasty. I can see myself returning come next snack time. I’m assuming this place is under new and horrible ownership/management because they are almost always closed way earlier than the store hours. Last week they were closed almost every single day earlier than 8 pm. Something must be going on. Somehow, the service is always good and I feel really bad for the workers. They only gave me one sauce for 6 mozzarella sticks which in my opinion is a little crazy. I didnt notice until I got home and ran out of sauce. I assume management is trying to cut costs. I also got an Oreo blast with fudge but there was almost no Oreos and the fudge was so minimal that I couldn’t even see or taste it. Assuming this is another way to cut costs. I usually only get drinks from here and they are always really good! I think that management should really consider their workers more and maybe not try to cut costs in sneaky places. Sonic is one of the more expensive fast foods and giving more than one sauce is just common sense in my opinion and I am sure workers want to do this (because people will complain) but cannot because of...
