River House Soda Fountain & Cafe — Restaurant in Plattsmouth

As a bit of a soda fountain nerd I was excited to try out the River House Cafe.

I did have a scoop of Huckleberry ice cream that was quite good, but the sandwiches were the real treat. I had a pastrami w/ mustard on rye and my girlfriend had the pesto panini. I love pastrami and while it was very good and the marble rye was soft and yet sturdy enough to stand up to the meat, the panini stole the show We both thought ham with pesto was an unusual choice but wow did it work. We could've had that meal again for dinner and been just as satisfied.

The River House is in an historic building in downtown Plattsmouth. A bar runs nearly the length of the room with an incredible mirror on the wall behind it. The floor and ceiling are old and appear to be original. The decorations are charming as are the people working there.

I heard about this restaurant and wanted to give it a try. It's on the corner downtown Plattsmouth, at 402 Main St. There was only one waitress trying to take care of all the patrons by herself, and I think there was only one cook in the kitchen. They do have a sign on the counter for Help Wanted! They are only open from 11a to 3p for lunch only Monday thru Saturday, closed on Sunday. They only have sandwiches, so I ordered the ham and turkey on sourdough bread and a pasta salad, my daughter ordered a panini. It seemed like it took a while from the time she took our order to when we finally got it. For dessert we ordered the brownie sundae and the huckleberry ice cream. The sandwiches were good but enjoyed the dessert, the huckleberry ice cream was really good as well as the brownie sundae. If you are looking for something different try this...

We absolutely love this hometown feel cafe. If you’re looking for comfy foods or a nice ice cream date with the kids this place is a great choice . I love that the menu keeps it simple and doesn’t overwhelm you . I love the daily specials or soup sandwiches or desserts. It’s become our place to go when we want to escape the hustle of the city and enjoy a nice meal with great staff with a nice and peaceful environment I recommend...
