The Shoya — Restaurant in Pleasant Hill

Glad to have a new sushi restaurant in the area with amazing offerings. The squid karaage was crispy and delicious. I had the special kaisen don with uni, scallops, otoro, crab, and ikura (not on the menu, but written on the chalk board by the entrance). It was heavenly and I wish I could eat it daily. My husband got the tsukiji don and it reminded me of the chiraishi bowls you could get near fish markets in Japan. The natural sweetness of the fish were highlighted by the sushi rice. The wasabi served with these dishes seemed to be real wasabi. The sushi chef gave us complementary tamago too which I always like to get at the end of my sushi/sashimi meal. That was a nice surprise! I will definitely go back. This place has the best quality sashimi bowls...

Delicious food and great service! I have a feeling, this will become my new favorite sushi spot. It is brand new and we thought we gave it a try. The appetizers were amazing—we especially enjoyed the Truffle Hamachi and the crispy deep-fried squid tentacles. For our mains, the Tsukiji Donburi had some of the freshest fish and beautifully presented. The beef teriyaki bento was really good and flavorful. They use great quality and well seasoned beef! Everything was great from start to finish. Fast and friendly service. Off to a great start! We will definitely be back! I’ll let the photos speak...

Dropped in with our kiddos! They have high chairs, kid-friendly plates and chopsticks and goodies - the fish was all very fresh, rolls nicely made (ordered two), happy to see they have kurodai on the nigiri list! I had the Chirashi - lovely presentation and nice touch with a couple slices being lightly seared. Good Sake and beer selection. Good service, prices comparable to other local restaurants / better in some respects, kids inhaled the shrimp appetizer skewers, salmon sashimi, miso soup and some of my Chirashi.
