I have wanted to try lost Texan bbq for years because Utah sucks for bbq. I finally got a chance today and I was disappointed. I should not spend $20 for 1 meal and still be hungry. I got a 2 meat plate for $16.99 plus an extra $3 for the sliced brisket. I am so mad at the brisket. It was dry and over cooked. The second meat I got was ribs, and they only give you 1 rib for your 2 meat plate. I don’t understand what the hype was with this place because who wants to spend $20 and only get 4 thin little dry pieces of brisket and 1 rib. The rib does not fall off the bone as it was also dry, but the rub they use had a good flavor. The other 2 meat plate we got 1 rib and a small helping of dry pulled pork. If you want good bbq, the only good here was the sides. Go to smokin bones in bountiful if you want good meat and sides. This does not live up to the Texas bbq expectation. Now, on to the sides. The Mac is homemade and I was happy with it. I would eat that Mac again. My favorite was the mashed potatoes. They were full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The bbq sauce is homemade and was good. They offer spicy and mild and I got one of each for both plates. On the pulled pork plate however, the bbq sauce was different. Loaded with vinegar so their bbq sauce maybe is not made the same every batch I don’t know what happened but they were completely not the same as the mild and spicy on my plate. Consistency is key and it was missing. Service was good, I’m just really sad about the meat. My expectations...
Read moreOrdered at 5pm. So I chalk this review up to being later in the day.
Ordered 2 meat plate. Pulled pork and jalapeño cheddar sausage. Green beans and potato salad. Plus apple pie. Best thing I ate was the apple pie.
When it’s comparing to other bbq establishments in Utah it’s hard. LESbbq in Sandy and pica rica in St. George those 2 are above standards.
Lost Texan. Great atmosphere. Awesome staff.
Pulled pork was warm. Tons of juice. But lacked any type of flavor. Jalapeño cheddar sausage was lukewarm warm. When cut it didn’t have any type of moisture come out. Green beans were seasoned well. Potato salad was good but not a ton of flavor. Putting it up against 2 other establishments lost Texan fell short.
I see a ton of people in lost Texan. People with to go bag orders. To me it’s Utah. Most Utahans eat bland food. Just blah. Seasoning is salt and pepper. And pepper is hot to some. Maybe it’s northern Utah.
LESbbq and pica rica everything was seasoned as bbq should be. Bold flavors. Like a wow factor. The food here was under warmers for me to see. But to keep it moist it has to be in a liquid of some sort.
It’s not bbq in the aspect they open the brown paper in a brisket and cut it in front of you and it’s naturally moist. Or it’s held in a warmer and brought...
Read moreWe must have caught them on an off night. We stopped by the other night to grab some "to-go" dinners. I realize it was toward the end of the day and it may have explained our experience.
First off, the staff was friendly and welcoming and the place was spotless, the smoke aroma outside made me think something was going to be great.
We ordered two, two-meat plates so we could test all that they had (Apparently brisket is an UPGRADE for $2 more? Never heard of that!). We loaded up on sides and headed home (Less than 5 min away).
What started out as a good experience quickly turned on us. The brisket ($2 upcharge!?!?) was mushy with no smoke flavor at all. Same with the pulled pork. The sausage was so dry that it was nearly inedible and the chicken, albeit moist and tender, was average at best.
All in all, the sides were decent, the help fantastic, but the meat left A LOT to be desired. And after all, isn't the meat what you go to a BBQ for? In addition, for the price of the meal, the serving size was on the small side.
This restaurant came highly recommended and as I said, perhaps we hit it on a bad night, but I'm not certain I'll...
