I'm so happy a place like this has opened in town! It's very clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is delicious. The service style is very similar to Chipotle. You go up to the counter, order your food, then go find a seat and the server will bring you your food. Almost everything on the menu is a la carte (except for family meals). I've been trying a couple of different things every time I go and have found a couple of menu items that really set them selves apart from the rest:
Absolute Favorites: First, I absolutely love their caldos (Mexican soup), especially the chicken tortilla soup (pictured below). This soup really reminds me of home and am glad to see a mexican place that serves some real home-style dishes. Among the taco options, the al pastor and fish tacos are my favorite. I've read of few of the reviews where people say the tacos are flavorless. I feel like these reviewers might not be aware that in Mexican cuisine, the taco seasoning is supposed to be a little more tamed so that you can add as much of your favorite salsa and lime juice (from the free salsa bar) as you'd like. Speaking of their salsas, the house tomatillo sauce is delicious. Drinks-wise, their horchata is the real deal! This is the first place I've found in Nashville (and surrounding area) that doesn't make their horchata from a mix! Finally, it's impossible for me to go to Pedro's without having some of their fried plantains! If you've got a sweet tooth, then this is the place for you with their huge selection of dessert options.
Not-so-favorites: Of course, there have been some things I've tried that aren't my favorite. These things are just a personal preference, not anything against the quality of the food. For instance, the tamales are made in a corn husk rather than cooked in a banana leaf. Second, their refried beans are made with pinto beans rather than black beans (my personal favorite). Finally, their street corn is served in a cup (shaved) instead of the on-the-cob.
All in all, this place is great for a quick bite where you can have both street-fare and home-style food options with the convenience of having a nice place to sit down and enjoy your meal (rather than standing outside/eating in your car at a taco food truck on Nolensville Pike lol). Yes, the price per taco might be a little more expensive than what you'd pay at a taco food truck or Taco Bell, but you've also got to take into account the added commodity and quality of this establishment. Hope this review was helpful :)
p.s. The plantains pictured below are missing 2 pieces because I couldn't help myself before taking this...
Read moreI ride past this restaurant everyday. For some reason they always seem closed. We finally were able to try it after a lady in the bank next door said the Guacamole was good.
In fact, the guacamole was good. Could maybe use a little more lime and salt.
I have drove far and wide and traveled to many cities and states to eat Mexican food (which is my favorite food) so I know what’s good and REALLY good.
This place I would say for food is Mediocre. If you’re looking for a quick place to eat Mexican and not looking for something that will blow your mind and make you wanting to come back for more, this is the place.
The Atmosphere is pretty small, but it’s very clean inside and looks well taken care of.
I ordered the “Monster Burrito” it was pretty big! As for the flavor it was a little bit bland compared to a lot of the Mexican restaurants I’ve been to. My boyfriend got the Carnitas which we both said was a tad on the salty side, but mixed with the rice and beans was decent.
The service was Excellent!! Our waitress was super nice and knowledgeable.
If I really was asked if I’d come back… probably not. For their price you can get more quality Mexican for cheaper at the Mexican restaurant...
Read moreI never leave reviews. I actually think this is my first one.
Pedro’s has incredible, authentic Mexican cuisine. Their staff is wonderful, and they also serve all day breakfast (which is hard to find in PV.)
I will be honest and say that I haven’t tried anything on their menu that I haven’t liked. Their tacos are amazing (I particularly like their three different pork tacos, but loved them all). They make fresh guacamole that isn’t just flavored with salt (which I find a lot of ‘Mexican’ places flavor with soooo much salt). Their burgers are fantastic and their desserts are all baked by the owners daughters. I think I can say that their carrot cake is the best I’ve ever had and I’d make the trip just for that. I often order dinner, and takeout for lunch the following day.
On top of their good food, the staff is lovely. They truly are. The owner is almost always there, and she’s always trying to make everyone happy.
I just don’t have a bad thing to say about this place. It’s cute, small, and it’s a family owned local business. I don’t think anyone would ever regret...
