Food can be good here... when prepared the way it's requested by the patron. Nothing special. Just having your hash browns cooked on both sides or having your ham steak cooked on both sides... Remembering not to put powdered sugar on your French toast as requested. Remembering to bring the order of once juice sometime before you're done with the meal. Service can also be good here. We felt sorry for our server named Amy because the kitchen got everything wrong not just was our food but evidently was several customers food all morning long... Dustin the manager was kinda enough to comp our breakfast although we didn't ask for that... we weren't really even complaining, however, it gets really tiring to have to have your food sent back or cooked properly the second time, or having to remind people to bring something you asked for more than once... as I told the manager, I just want the food I ordered the way I ordered it and not to have to complain or remind anybody about what I ordered and went to bring it. It seems that it's a lot simpler to eat at home these days. I know that this is going to sound racist to some of you, but kitchen help needs to be able to read the orders in English so that they can get them right. I'm sure like most restaurants today the orders contain a number that refers to a type of food and that's all they can read... comments such as make the hash browns extra crispy or no powdered sugar on the french toast are lost in the lack of any translation. We will go back to Jim's someday in the future to give them another chance to get it right the first time because the food can be really good. This restaurant is packed with people on Saturday and Sunday morning and therefore must have a good reputation for good food and for good service so it's entirely unfortunate when a customer who has been away for several years comes back and has to have a hassle instead of a nice comfortable easy breakfast out. Thank you for the food Dustin, and thank Amy for her service, and remember we want to come back and eat without any glitches next time. By the way, we still tipped our server the amount that would have been equal to 25% of our tab for breakfast. Never want to stiff a server un less they give you no...
Read moreWe stopped at Jim’s Country Style Restaurant in Pleasanton while driving from San Jose to Sacramento with our teen grandkids, and it turned out to be a great find just off I-680.
The restaurant has a warm, homey feel inside, with plenty of funny signs on the walls that set a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. They’re only open for breakfast and lunch, and the menu is packed with all the classics—biscuits and gravy, omelets, burgers, sandwiches, and more—alongside their hearty daily specials.
Our grandkids went straight for the pancakes, and they were huge, fluffy, and absolutely terrific. Alongside came scrambled eggs, thick-cut bacon, and sausage that was cooked perfectly—crispy on the outside yet juicy inside. My wife ordered the savory French toast with fried eggs and more of that crisp, meaty bacon, and she really enjoyed it.
I started with a bowl of chili. While flavorful, it was only lukewarm, the cheese on top didn’t melt, and it had more beans than I usually prefer. I’m a big chili fan and try it everywhere I go, so it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. On the other hand, I tried something completely new—the linguica sandwich. Served on a French roll with lettuce, tomato, mayo, thin-sliced red onions, and a pickle, this char-broiled sausage had a mildly spicy, smoky flavor that I found delicious. It was my first time trying linguica, and I’m glad I did.
The service was another highlight. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly and piping hot.
Overall, Jim’s Country Style Restaurant makes for a great stop along I-680 if you’re looking for hearty, classic breakfast and lunch dishes in a casual, family-friendly setting. While the chili wasn’t my favorite, everything else we tried was delicious, and the atmosphere and service make it a place worth...
Read moreNot your fancy restaurant. BUT, hold onto your hats! Food is delicious, get the salsa if you like it a bit spicy. Best salsa I've ever had in California. Also their Ranch style potatoes are fabulous & not greasy. I'm not a potatoes person & I almost ate them all. Eggs over easy were perfection. Great cook, lightly cooked. No rushing these eggs, so there wasn't any brown edges. Just beautiful cooked whites with a perfect flip & nice runny yolks. We tried both the wheat & Sour dough breads, both were good, unbuttered & toasted. Coffee, get it I had 4 refills. If you like coffee it's fresh brewed, & delicious. For me add some sugar & cream we're good to go. One person got the chicken fried steak, it tasted like a tenderized cube steak with a nice peppery flour coating & great country pepper flour gravy. Was very enjoyable experience. I hope you have as good of time as we did. I had the Country Style with Bacon & Ranch Potatoes. Definitely worth visiting, best breakfast I've had...
