I have been going to Gary for about 5 yrs it’s the place to go everytime I am in alantic city! U go in small little place the walls filled with many pic of celebrities and personal letter from the community thanking “Gary” he seems like a great guy very loved in his community! This year I go in and 4 local police officers eating breakfast in a corner table the atmosphere very welcoming as it always has been greeting a out of town guest the same as a local very warm and inviting! I was seated at a table and a young waitress approached my table. We got into conversation on how I come to the area every year and I have to visit this restaurant for their famous breakfast. We had great conversation. She was very warm and inviting and telling me about local things in the area and what I have and have not seen we talked about my area And she took my order. As I sat there waiting for my order, I looked around out on the walls and this man came out of the office and I noticed it must be Gary. So when I looked over at him and he recognized that I was looking at him he asked me what I was staring at, and I told him my story that I’ve been coming to his restaurant for the last five years And I love his food. He proceeded to tell me that I have the fourth best waitress in the house meanwhile, in my head I’m thinking I have the best waitress in the house. She was great. We had great conversation, and I told him that and he proceeded to belittle the young lady in front of me using my conversation That she was late for work that morning, and then decided to say another waitress that was behind the counter in front of a packed dining room that she was late also and how these waitress have him by his shorts then my food comes to my table by my waitress, who’s totally embarrassed and about in tears and apologizes For him, and he continues to belittle my waitress to the point she walked out and quit , and then he decided to stand behind my table and stare at me while I was trying to eat my breakfast when I got up to ask for my waitress he told me he would put her tip in the cash register And I decided to tell Gary what a sorry sorry man he was to treat people like that I will never return there again the way he treated those women in that diner was unbelievable! So if you visit there, I hope your visit doesn’t include Gary cause the pictures on the wall are a lie. The staff make that place not the guy...
Read moreFriends, I have found breakfast nirvana in the unassuming walls of Gary's Homestyle Eatery! This place is so low-key you might just drive right past it, but inside is Southern comfort food that rivals the best of Texas and Georgia.
As a renowned food guru who lives for a hearty morning meal, I've had my share of lauded grits, pancakes, and the like. But Gary's chip beef on toast with a side of cheese grits left me floored. The deftly seasoned, tender chip beef melting into the crispy buttered toast created a mouthparty not to be believed. And the creamy, velvety grits with just the right amount of sharp cheddar made me weep with joy.
My local friend Rachel, who's been coming here for 30 years, implored me to try Gary's despite its humble appearance. And wow, was she right - this place delivers scrumptious Southern fare that exceeds any high-falutin' upscale breakfast joint. The prices are an unbelievable steal, too, since Gary focuses on affordability rather than inflating costs just because they've got a stellar rep.
Within those unpretentious walls, I found the breakfast of my dreams. The warm, welcoming atmosphere and top-notch fare will make Gary's a regular stop on my foodie bucket list travels. Fair warning, the classic Southern cooking is dangerously addictive - I went two days straight after that first heavenly chip beef bite!
So do yourself a favor and get to Gary's stat. Once you become a regular and "everyone knows your name, you're gonna be where you wanna be" and you'll never crave breakfast anywhere else again. Five blissful stars!

Read moreMy family and I were in Pleasantville and we wanted to have a good family breakfast with a dine-in diner experience. I went on TripAdvisor and Gary’s Restaurant was in the top three for the best breakfast dining. We decided to try it out. TripAdvisor was not kidding. We walked in the diner and we can see that it was a packed place but the atmosphere was phenomenal. Many pictures and colorful paintings on the world really does give you that true American dining experience. The hostess spoke Spanish too which helped my family in terms of communication. Our waitress was very nice and very helpful with our selections. We selected the breakfast platters of two eggs, pork sausage, pork bacon, and home fries as well as French Toast. The food was excellent. The quality of the pork sausages links were thick and flavorful and had a nice crisp. Pork bacon not too crispy not too soft, it was good. The highlight was the home fries. The home fries came with onions and peppers and they were filled with flavor and the quality was like a nice grilled mash potatoes. My family and I loved the food so much that we ate everything. Thank you Gary restaurant and the staff for the best dining experience we’ve had in a long time. The home fries were the best! My family and I love it so much. We would definitely come back again to try the Wednesday lunch specials. To us Gary’s restaurant is number one in Pleasantville for the true American Breakfast Diner Experience....
