My husband and I had just started dating a couple of years ago and lived near Jumbos. We went in early one morning and were amazed at what we discovered. We'd each been driving past it for years and neither of us really wanted to go in somewhere for the first time alone. Well that was a huge mistake!! I can't go back and eat all the really good meals I could have eaten in those years. The service is wonderful! It is small and not somewhere fancy, but man can they make some good, hot food!!! We go there usually at least once a month. The service has been great almost every time. Most of them now know us and greet us in a friendly way. The owner knows us and our story, and we just love her and want to support her! We love to give our business to local businesses when we can. Heidi is so sweet and welcomes us and often talks to us. She is great and runs her restaurant well. It is a multigenerational business with multiple family members working there. We've even gone in and had a young waitress working with an adorable small little daughter with her (probably a future waitress and possibly a future owner). The food isn't cooked and given to you in just a few minutes. Instead the food is actually cooked for you after you order and you can see the steam rising off of it! It is hot and fresh, delicious and reasonably priced which we really appreciate. Since the prices have stayed reasonable, we love to come in more often and probably actually spend more there because we come in more often. It is my absolute favorite place to eat in the Pocatello area. Oh and the hash browns are real potatoes, fresh and not frozen!! Potatoes are my very most favorite food, and I know good hash browns. Jumbos has the absolute best hash browns I've ever eaten in my life!! You have the option of gravy on them which my husband really likes. This might sound weird but I love my hash browns there with their fry sauce on them; it's a little more creamy and not as strong and tomato flavored as ketchup. They also make the best, most wonderful scones! Oh my gosh they are hot, crisp on the outside and tender and soft on the inside. They serve with a generous amount of butter, and you can get their wonderful raspberry jam or honey to add if you like. We've eaten many of the items on the menu, but my husband and I each have our own favorites. The lunch items are really good too. They also have daily specials that are really good. When someone mentions coming to the area, I always tell them they've got to go to eat at Jumbos. It is a Pocatello hidden gem!! I wish they were open in the evening for dinner (they close at 3:00), but being a smaller, family owned restaurant, I understand. If they stayed open at night and the regulars weren't working at night, it might ruin their quality...
Read moreThis place has great potential as a breakfast spot, but unfortunately, I’ve never had a positive experience with the staff. ( I’ve given it a chance 4 times)
Food is good, but the staff are outright rude, you can definitely feel the negative energy from the team. It seems like there’s a lot of complaining among the servers. Having been a waitress for seven years and still working in the industry occasionally, I try to be understanding of challenging situations. However, it’s hard to overlook how, upon walking in, you’re immediately met with frustration, and if you don’t meet their timing expectations right away, you’re greeted with eye rolls and heavy sighs. I understand it’s busy and popular place and as a server it can be a very demanding place… and you want to turn your tables as quick as possible… but honestly coming from a person who tips 25-30% every time. Often times I’m tempted to leave the bare minimum as tip, because of how rude the service is. After reading through other reviews I’m not the only one with the this frustration.
Other breakfast places I would recommend going:
Cielito Lindo ( amazing staff)
Abracadabras
Oliver’s
To the owners comment:
That’s okay. Breakfast places are popular and often have a long wait. People enjoy breakfast. You are obviously someone who has no desire to improve. If you read through all your reviews majority of them complain about the service and the hostility of your place… everyone I talk to will choose you as a second option when other places are full. It a wager of good food and dealing with rude staff thankfully you can limit your interactions with the staff. Maybe if you took the hundreds of comments on how rude everyone is into consideration your staff would be happier and receive better tips. Being kind isn’t hard. Caring about your business enough to want to improve isn’t either. You purchased this business in 2024 … you specially didn’t own it the last 60 years… I’m sure the original owners cared a lot about how their guests were treated. I would be curious to see how much the reviews have dropped in the year that you have owned it. The authentic reviews. Not the ones where you ask friends and workers to leave. Like I said previously … I would have loved to changed my review if the owner shared a tinsy out of care … after her reply clearly not caring. I ended up taking more stars away not...
Read moreThe Belgian waffle was the worse one I’ve ever had. Failed to mention “they put a dozen eggs in a single waffle” from what manager had said. The waitress did a fine job and was very quick to get me a replacement! The lady manager could have been much more professional. The need to cause a scene and use of profanity in front of all the other families was very unnecessary. Never had a problem here before but am very disappointed after this visit.
To reply to your comment. I ordered the Belgian waffle and it was absolutely terrible. I had taken two bites when I asked the waitress to take it back you she seemed a bit off guard and walked right over to the other side of the wall from where we just so happened to be seated. You were laughing about how there are a dozen eggs in it. I never asked for the waffle to be taken off the receipt. I simply asked for hash browns instead :) I was not the one who made the comment about the waitress. The other women in our party had said that to the immediate people at our table. You only happened to hear because you were sitting in the back corner waiting to instigate a problem as you once again laughed and walked away waiting in the middle of the door way for us to leave the table. For being the owner of a business and to behave in a such a childish manner, I am embarrassed for you. You set the tone for every employee you have and I see clearly why YOU have low customer...
