Mix Bowl Cafe — Restaurant in Pomona

Very disappointed on the food here.A friend said Thai food here is not bad so I gave a try after reading many positive review. I am Thai food lover, I eat Thai food everywhere I go. I can cook Thai food too, my Thai friends take me to all Thai restaurants where they love all the time so I know well how Thai food taste like. This restaurant ambiance is nice, airy and clean and well maintenance entrance with trimmed bonsai and fountain. I must say I have very good first impression so I think the food would be nice too but not at all. Luckily we ordered only 3 first dishes to try to decide if we order more or not.

Pad Thai was too oily. Our order was chicken and shrimp pad thai but only 2 small shrimps no more. When eating, chicken smell all over your mouth. This smell only come when you boil a chicken, put it in refrigerator more than a week, keep taking it in and out without cover it, then odd smell come. Terrible, I could not handle, my parents try to finish it.

Papaya salad is the worst. Technically it is only green papaya with vinegar and salt, add few slide of tomatoes and 1 slide of cabbage for garnishment. This salad supposed to have dried shrimp and peanut and fish sauce to mix with vinegar, sugar and other herb to make it flavor be unique but here you can not see anything except papaya. It is $10.95 for a bowl of green papaya is ridiculously pricy. We could not eat it after first try so we left all the papaya salad to trash no take to home.

Satay chicken is the best among my 3 dishes but it is very under average pan sear breast chicken strip with saffron color cover the chicken, no well marinated. Only the sauce to dip with chicken is good.

After trying these 3 above dishes, we decided not to eat more and go to another restaurant. We did not want to order fried rice or mango sticky rice as we planned to do so if food was good.

One more thing was the lady server seems was angry with something, she took order with very rushy and annoyed attitude. I do not know it is her attitude to all guests or just because having a bad day.

I doubt if they have good chef or not. This is my personal review, my family and I would not come back again… to us it is not real Thai food and food quality is too low, not fresh as they stated...

For almost 15 years, my family and I have been loyal Mixbowl customers, making the forty-minute drive from Riverside to enjoy your food. Tonight, September 6, 2025, we arrived at 9:40 PM with my wife, our six-year-old daughter, and our seven-month-old baby, looking forward to a meal together. When I asked for a table, I was told that a new policy stops dine-in at 9:30 PM, and only takeout was available.

I politely explained to the staff that we’d driven a long way and have been coming here for years, asking if they could make a one-time exception and promising to respect the policy moving forward. I mentioned we’d order quickly, eat fast, and keep things tidy. I also pointed out that takeout wouldn’t work well since the food would get cold by the time we got home after another forty-minute drive.

Despite my efforts, the staff wouldn’t budge and stuck to the policy. I’m utterly disappointed by this experience and won’t be making the long trip to Mixbowl anymore. I hope you’ll consider being a bit more flexible for longtime customers in...

I usually go to this place, because their food is good. But yesterday when I went with my friend there service was not acceptable. We got there around mid night. It was hour before they close. As soon as we get there one of the server told us we are closing in 45 min. Then we placed our food and we were enjoying it Then their cashier bring the cheque left on the table, we just received our food. So I was going to pay once I'm done with eating. Then this cashier come back in about couple of Minutes and tells us we must pay now because they cashier is closing. But they had their Open sign still on and there were more people coming in. So I told her I'll pay once I'm done eating and then she told me that I must pay now. Which was not acceptable then I said I'll leave if you a rushing us like this, then she said pay and leave.

I get it. There trying to close but should not rush the customers while eating. Normally as I know even the restuarant is close they let the customer in side ri finish there food.

This is not acceptable very rude...
