Arrived at the hotel at 8pm from Fort Lauderdale airport after a 3 hour flight with our 3 year old son. Unfortunately, we didn't plan well and only ate a lunch so we were all famished by the time we arrived having eaten nothing since noon. I'm not a gourmet eater and neither is my wife. We ordered the soup, hamburger, ceviche, and fish tacos.
The soup was tasty and nice and warm, but not exceptional. The ceviche had good flavor but the fish was firm and over-cooked. It was not the experience I recalled when we first had ceviche in Santa Barbara, although possibly this was a different fish. The fish tacos were slightly bitter from charred fish and the tacos themselves were hard at places reminiscent of microwaved bread. The taco was otherwise bland and the best tasting part would probably be the tartar sauce, of which there was sparingly little.
The hamburger looked delicious, and had a generous portion of meat, but again the hamburger buns tasted stale or were microwaved, making the entire burger somewhat lackluster.
I've yet in my life to send back a dish, and tonight was the closest I've ever come with the fish tacos. I was very surprised at this because we were all very hungry, and usually that means whatever is placed in front of us would be tasty if not delicious. Hard to imagine how bad the food would have to get before we wouldn't eat it. I was still sightly hungry but couldn't stomach the idea of another stale burger so I just didn't eat. We ended up ordering 3 soups, the tacos, ceviche, and hamburger and total came out to a bit over $70.
I was very disappointed to say the least in terms of the quality of the food and the price. I wasn't surprised to see later the same items were on the menu for room service, available "anytime". This reinforced my suspicion that the food was simply reheated or microwaved.
If we had ordered room service, I could understand the quality but not for a sit down restaurant.
My wife really liked the French fries since they were not too salty unlike the burger. And finally, the staff were all very nice although it did take quite a while for the food to arrive (don't think this was related to service, suspect more food "preparation"). The bar seemed lively so maybe it's a good place to drink and snack, but not really dine.
UPDATE: My wife later suffered a sun burn and we lacked a car, so we ended up eating multiple times at this place. The second time I believe it was closer to typical dinner time (5 or 6pm) and I think the food tasted better, almost fresh and not microwaved. It's very possibly, then, that it depends on the time of day when you order your meal. I have to say, however, there was a long discussion and even investigation into local pizza joints that would deliver before we opted to...
Read moreLet's start with the food - there were a total of 10 of us in our party, and several said their food was good.
If you're determined to eat here, things I recommend:
The flatbread The cheeseburger The BBQ wings The desserts - but take note if ice cream doesn't come with it it's $3.00 extra l
What I highly recommend you stay away from:
The bowl of pickles - they're sweet (but the menu doesn't say that) The Mahi tacos - the mahi is too salty and overcooked and the sauce is basically just mayonnaise; if they mixed something into it you can't taste it AT ALL! The salads - there's nothing special about them.
OVERALL - it's a hotel restaurant so it's overpriced and the food, even the food dishes, aren't worth it in my opinion. If you want to spend real money on dinner there are plenty of other places within driving distance you can do that at.
However, I'm giving this place 2 stars because the service wasn't good!
There was our table, another couple inside, and perhaps some people dining outside (I couldn't tell) but if our server Ed (Edward) felt overwhelmed he should talk to his manager about getting him help.
Edward was impatient, forgetful, and did not appreciate that we asked for one of the orders to be on a separate check. In fact, he asked us repeatedly if that's really what we wanted to do, even though we were upfront with him from the moment we ordered and continued to say yes each time he asked.
And if it ended there then maybe I would've been more understanding.
However, the next day, at the pool, which our entire party was enjoying we overhear Edward telling his manager how difficult we were and how he just "didn't need that". If you have difficult customers or were stressed and need to vent I understand, but there's a time and a place and in front of any patrons is NEVER the time or the place. That's just common sense.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not offended. In fact, we laughed. But I think some proper workplace etiquette needs to...

I stayed at the attached Marriott for a multi-day work event and ordered room service twice while here. The night I flew in, I went on the app and ordered the Orange brined chicken. About 45 minutes later, the food gets to my room, I sign, add a tip and bring the bag inside. I take out the container, and it wasn't the chicken, but the cheese burger. Whatever, it was late and I was hungry, so I ate it and brushed it off.
4 days later, the last night of my work event I try ordering the chicken again. This time when it gets to my room, I look in the bag before the employee leaves. Sure enough, it's another burger! I told the employee that I ordered the chicken and this is the second time they brought me a burger. Her response was, "Oh, we don't have that on the menu anymore." Even though it was clearly on the website available to order.
I looked at the receipt and sure enough, they charged me for the burger (which is more expensive than the chicken). I asked her why the chicken is available to order if they don't have it anymore and she just shrugged.
This experience was laughably bad, and I can see why the restaurant has such lackluster reviews. Heck, I wouldn't even be upset if the burger were actually any good, but it's...
