The Hen and The Hog in Pompano Beach, Florida, is a local gem I recently experienced. As someone with a sincere appreciation for expertly executed comfort food and genuine hospitality, I felt compelled to share a thorough review of my visit. My name is Ollie, and having built a reputation in the automotive service industry where quality, trust, and customer care are paramount, my expectations for any business—especially in hospitality—are high. The Hen and The Hog met and, in most respects, exceeded those expectations. I was struck by the warm, inviting farmhouse decor when I walked through the doors at 3003 N Federal Hwy. The ambiance transports you out of busy South Florida into a cozy, rustic retreat that feels nostalgic and fresh. Though the dining room was bustling—especially on a Saturday morning—the staff never failed to greet me with a smile. The vibe is unmistakably Southern, not only in style but also in the way people interact; there is a sense of real community that many chain establishments can’t replicate. Hen and The Hog shines brightest with its extensive breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu. Think heaping plates of homestyle favorites—fluffy omelettes, golden pancakes, and enormous skillets—as well as inventive takes like Key West Eggs Benedict with crab cake and shrimp, or a Smoked Brisket Melt. During my visit, I tried their house-made grits. Everything arrived piping hot and full of flavor. The potatoes deserve a special mention—chunky, well-seasoned, and perfectly crispy. Portion sizes lean large: These are the kind of breakfasts that fuel a full day, making the price point feel more than fair. There’s plenty of variety for every palate and dietary preference, with vegetarian and vegan options available.

In my eyes, what separates The Hen and The Hog from its competitors is the approach to service. My server was attentive without hovering, eager to explain the specials, and genuinely seemed happy to be there—qualities I value immensely in guest-facing staff. The kitchen executed orders without error, even during a crowded late morning rush.

However, it would be disingenuous to overlook that some guests have experienced delayed service or confusion with billing during peak hours. I witnessed the team hustling hard to manage both flow and friendly service, but it’s worth noting that weekends (especially brunch time) attract significant crowds, and there can be a wait.

True Southern hospitality. This spot is now on my short list for breakfast, brunch, or lunch in Pompano Beach, and I look forward to many...

Update - Came at 11am on the last Saturday of June, with no snow birds around. What a bliss, not much of a wait. Angela was the host when we got there. She greeted us cheerfully and seated us. She remained friendly even though they are busy. Barbie was our server. She's observant. We don't have to ask for napkins or water. She always checked us to see if we need anything. My husband enjoyed the pig pen omelette but he asked it done without the pulled pork. Coffee was fine and they have an "angel" who goes around to refill coffee . Waffle was on the dry side so probably will not order it next time. Homemade corned beef hash was delicious , a bit salty for my husband's taste though. Check for drink specials too. We missed their lychee mimosas special. Overall, we enjoyed our breakfast.

Initial- Took a 24 minute drive to try this place and we were not disappointed. On point on everything we ordered. All fresh cut up vegetables and deliciously properly prepared and seasoned. Not salty and not bland either. A hole in the wall but definitely NOT a run down place. In fact, properly managed with a staff assigned to seat people. We woke up early to be here by 10am on a Saturday .. lol based on reviews of long line. By the time we arrived, there's still plenty of seats I guess because the snow birds were no longer around since it's already in June. Parking was tough by the time we arrived but we got the last spot so be aware of that.

From the pictures I attached, you will see that veggies were all fresh, see spinach in the pictures attached , not frozen . We ordered smoke salmon omelette and mine was omelette with veggies. All were delicious. We ordered steel cut oatmeals with our omelettes and again they were great.

If only they served or sell real maple syrup, I will try their pancakes or waffle. So I advise you to BYO maple syrup.

Server was good. Cleaning staff excellent and importantly they have coffee angel going around to refill your cups. Didn't I mention, excellent coffee?

Another advice: Bring earphones if noise bothers like we do but my tummy calls prevail so I see us coming back often.

Reservations are limited for party of 6 or more. Management was excellent in attending to complaints which I was very impressed . Yelena I believe was her name who apologized and calmed me down. (nothing to do with me making a...

One of the worst dinning experience I’ve had in a very long time. Took over an hour for our breakfast to come out and once it did come out, they didn’t even bring the orders out together. When comforting the manager (Mario) about our situation. He did nothing to rectify the situation. Telling me the food is made fresh and sometimes it takes longer. He is incompetent to run that establishment. As a manager he should have been in the kitchen telling the cooks to get our food out, instead he walks back to his cash register and just stands there greet people. I watched 4 or 5 tables turn over just waiting for our food. The waitress didn’t check on us to even refill our waters or to see if we needed anything else. The food was mediocre at best. Horrible experience to say the least.

That is a plain out lie! You as an owner should be embarrassed to write something like that. I had one drink in your restaurant. The root of the problem was your incompetent staff from the waiting staff, to the cooks and managment. The reason I got upset is cause it took over an hour to get my food. THAT IS THE PROBLEM and my order wasn’t the only order that was messed up. The family to the right of me had issues with their order as well. In fact they told me I shouldn’t have to pay for my order due to the fact we were waiting so long. As far as Mario saying he was gonna comp our drinks and when the bill came they were still on the bill, so that’s when I said I wasn’t gonna pay if they weren’t removed. Your staff and restaurant dropped the ball today and instead of blaming me, take responsibility for your restaurant and fix the problem. Don’t worry I will never go back to your restaurant and I will never recommend it to anyone. My family has been in the restaurant business my whole life and our staff or owners would never act the way you and your...
