The food is delicious, the Alcapurria were fresh and tasty but not on the menu. The Mofongo is amazing, my compliments to the chef. My complaint is the costumer service, the waitress served us and returned after an hour. She left the restaurant to run an errand apparently but during that time no one waited on our table. The bartender looked over multiple times but never came over, even after waving him over. The owner just peaked over and continued his conversation with a group of elderly men as they were continuously served drinks. I wasn’t sure if this was customary for family owed businesses on the island but I’m sure it’s not. (My family has owed multiple restaurants on the island but closed due to their age and no one wanting to run the business) I couldn’t even get another drink or any type of service. Once the waitress returned the bartender whom was serving other customers food acknowledged we wanted service and we were served once again. The icing on the cake was the hand written bill that had a suggested tip for a party of two, for the lack of service I assume. Even though I always leave a tip regardless of service I usually don’t leave a review. I return often to Ponce from the States, but I can assure you I would never recommend your restaurant to anyone. I hope your customer service improves because your business would do well if it did. Side note: The restaurant only had three...
Read moreThis restaurant is about one thing & one thing only....The Food. The food is authentic puertorican, old school food. While every other "yahoo" cooks puertorican food, El Bohio gives you what "Mom" used to serve at home. Example: back when I was a kid, everywhere you bought Mofongo, it was made with "chicharon/tocino" in it. Mofongo is offered in almost every restaurant in Puerto Rico but NOWHERE do they make it with "chicharon/tocino" like it was authentically made back in the days. El Bohio still makes it authentically. And that's just Mofingo. They have dishes that no one else makes like "carne mechada", "cocido de patitas de cerdo", "gazpacho de aguacate y bacalao", "serenata", "homemade dulce de lechoza con queso blanco", and so many others. It's a small place so you don't go there for the atmosphere and it's always full because of the repeat customers so you'll have to wait just a little for service...you go there for their food. It's what Puertorican food should be in every restaurant in...
Read moreWhen we travel we love to find authentic local cuisine. In our humble opinion El Bohio serves up the best food in Ponce prepared and served by the loveliest family! Delicious chicken mofongo, suculent pork chops and sweet potatoes, delicious beans and rice, homemade Sangria, and the coffee flan for this coffee addict was absolutely amazing! The menu is large and seems to have something for everyone. It's easy to understand why this restaurant has been in business since the 60's. Don't let the small size and having to be buzzed in to the restaurant scare you off, what awaits you inside is a foodies paradise. We were a party of 4 adults and my 20 month old grandson..He enjoyed shouting hola to all the customers...every one smiled.. so we truly felt welcome. We had a lunch there and a Supper meal...it was hands down our favorite restaurant during our weeks stay in Ponce. Thank you Elizabeth, Daisy and Miramar you are gracious hosts! We hope to...
