Tijuana’s Bar &Grill — Restaurant in Ponce

I’m not here to give a terrible review. Apparently, this place is fairly popular with the locals. Just know that if you are from the American South (Texas, Arkansas, or anywhere with authentic Mexican food and/or TexMex), this place is bound to disappoint. The salsa just isn’t. It’s insanely spicy and not like anything you’d expect. The entrees are OK, but again it’s all wrong. The only thing that resembled anything we would receive back home was the cheese dip. Everything else was really wonky. Not bad, but not Mexican food. Believe me, I’ve eaten at a WIDE variety of Mexican owned and operated restaurants (various regional cuisines), plus all the TexMex chains… Tijuana’s is not “authentic” in either sense. The service, food and cleanliness was excellent! Until the music started. The volume was extremely loud to the point that the hearing alarm on my Apple Watch got activated! We asked the manager to try to get the volume lowered but the singer in the photo here just put it up higher, sadly it just started to sound like screaming cats.

Update: we asked to get our food as take out, but the manager talked to the singer again and he took a break for us to finish our dinner. We truly appreciated...

As soon as we entered the host welcomed us very warmly, offering us to choose the seating of our liking. Once seated we were tended to very quickly with chips on the house and outstanding waiting service. We ordered the house specialty “pelangocha” and where not disappointed with the spectacular flavor and freshness.
