I placed an order for curbside pickup. I ordered the ribeye steak medium rare. What I received was a rare bordering on "blue" steak. Far too rare for me. But that was not the worst problem with the steak. They did not trim the silver skin from the outer edges of the steak which made it EXTREMELY tough and chewy. It also had white tough chewy string like sinew that ran thru parts of the steak that made the entire steak tough and chewy not just the edges of the steak. The plastic fork and knife were very cheap and definitely not up to the job of cutting or stabbing such a poor quality steak. I finally gave up altogether and ended up throwing out most of the steak.
The loaded mashed potatoes were nothing special but the broccoli was very good. Not almost $40 good to make up for the horrible steak but the broccoli was well seasoned and was the only thing good about the meal that I received. If I had been served that steak in the restaurant I would have returned it and ordered something else. Unfortunately, I did not discover this until I had returned to my hotel room with my meal. I won't lie, getting one of the worst steaks I have ever had and paying almost $40 for my meal definitely made me angry to end up throwing it in the trash. Prices are high enough as it is and this was completely unacceptable. I will not be returning. This was their highest item on their menu and it was inedible.
Also, they give a 10 percent discount for hotel guest but not if you order your meal to go which they don't tell you until you make your order. It is nowhere on their...
Read moreThe food is PERFECT! We enjoyed the food extensively. The problems were with the service and atmosphere for us. The place is clean and nicely decorated but the music was so loud we had to raise our voices to speak to the server or each other. Our server either needed more training or they are immensely understaffed. She didn't change us for our drinks, yet we didn't get all we ordered either but I did share with her the mistake of not charging us for what we did get and she thanked us, profusely. We waited for more than 20 minutes for a refill. We also asked for a water and some more napkins. Mom's medicine didn't go down well and we didn't get the water for more than 30 minutes so I gave her my drink. I mean, we needed the water, so I'm a bit salty about that. After never receiving the napkins and the drink that was supposed to come with our food, we left about an hour and half of getting there but we were "early birds". By the time we left, more than 25 people were huddled in the extremely small entrance, waiting on tables. It was a mad house. It is my recommendation that if you decide to visit here, go early in the day, bring your own napkins, take all medications before you leave home, and have patience because the food is...
Read moreTL;DR: Decent food at a decent price.
This is the second Big Whiskey location I've visited and the first left a bad impression. Fortunately Poplar Bluff's is much better. From atmosphere to service it's all round an improvement.
I had the Boozy French Toast (part of the Sun-Sat Brunch menu). It was lightly spiced French toast with fruit. It was not very sweet, the fruto was tart, and the "Spiced Rum Butter" left a light spice flavor on it.
My wife and daughter had the Honey Whiskey BBQ Tenders. They were so good I even stole one for myself. The sauce on them is incredible and the chicken itself is cooked well.
My wife also had a Loaded Frozen Coffee (from the brunch cocktail menu). She loved it, but I didn't. If you are a coffee lover you may enjoy it but I couldn't taste enough of anything harder to make it drinkable.
Edit: Someone in our party ordered a whiskey pecan pie for dessert. It was beautiful and...
