Port Byron has some great scenic views of the Mississippi River. I really haven't taken advantage of them enough - I mostly just drive on through to and from work. This particular Friday, however, I needed to take it easy before really starting for the day, i.e. grab some lunch, ponder the day for a bit etc. With that in mind I decided lunch at Ram's Riverhouse was in order before getting to work for the afternoon. I needed a burger in between work at home and doing stuff at site.
There are only about three or so blocks of businesses along both sides of Main Street in Port Byron - this place is situated near the Southern end of this strip with a pretty great view of the river. I can envision sitting out at one of the small outdoor tables in the summer, just taking in the Riverfront with a few beers and a sandwich of some type. It's a little cold right now though, so I opted for indoor seating.
The inside of Rams is an interesting combination of the past few decades. The space itself looks very new - clean wood laminate floors, drop ceiling, a TouchTunes machine, and the usual set of video slots that I think pretty much all bar/restaurants in Illinois are legally obligated to have now. There's also a multicade from the 80s right near the front entrance, as well as a not insignificant collection of Riverdale Rams items behind the bar. The name of the bar is starting to make sense now...
I opted for a soda and a burger of the BYOB variety with bacon, pickles and onions. The burger was out to me within 10 minutes of ordering. It's one of the better burgers I've had at a bar recently. There was nothing fancy about it, just a solid burger with some tasty toppings. The bun was a stand-out in this case however - the little bit of frying on the grill top with some butter took things to the next level. It had those slightly crispy buttered bread bits on it - always a nice addition to a burger!
As with some of the other places along Main Street, I want to come back in the summer when it's a little warmer and I can sit outside. I look forward to this return visit. Thanks...
Read moreI went there special because of there adds on the Erie radio. Got there the waitress seated me order a beer and she brought me a menu. She sent the next 10 minutes talking to her friends by the window. I was ready to leave. she came over and asked if I was ready to order I said for the last 10min. She gave me a funny look and took my order. The food was okay and not what the menu said. Food portion were okay. Seen her 2 times during the meal. Read moreSince we live close to Rams riverhouse, my husband and I decided to stop in and have lunch. He ordered their buffalo wings and fries. He said the fries were really good and the buffalo wings were good just not spicy enough. They had really good flavor. Maybe extra sauce might have made them more spicy? I had a chef salad with ham. The salad was quite a bit larger than I expected with all different types of leaf lettuces excluding iceberg. Tomatoes cheese and just the perfect amount of onion not to overpower the salad. We will go back. UPDATE - We have been back several times. There hasn't been any thing we haven't liked. LOVE the seasoned tator tots! Staff is friendly and helpful. We will continue to stop for...
