Mariscos El Malecon — Restaurant in Porterville

I REALLY wanted to like this place, I heard great things from multiple people that live in porterville. Don’t know if it was bad because of the chefs that were working that day or if they were not trained enough. We were given complimentary fish ceviche when we were seated and it was GREAT. We then ordered the ceviche mixto, torre de agua chile, and oysters. The oysters are most likely not from a reputable source or the staff doesn’t know how to properly care for it because both my father in law and fiancé got sick. Granted we know the risks of eating raw oysters but our expectation from a marisco spot would be a safe bet to eat oysters from or so we thought. Both the ceviche and the agua chile were dry. I’ve never gotten either of these dishes at any other marisco place served without the jugo. I could have seen past that if both those dishes were flavorful. They were not. Food was good except Camarones a la diabla was requested to me medium hot but it was still really spicy. Service not so great. When the food was brought out, they asked if they needed anything. I requested an extra fork and another item but neither were brought out. Upon almost being finished with the meal, a different waiter came out and asked if we needed anything. We requested a togo box as well and one was not brought until we seen another worker and asked, then they brought us a box and the extra fork. Restaurant is small and has really loud music. Amazing staff and welcoming atmosphere. When you come in the staff greets you with a warm smile and calls you amigos. Instead of chips and salsa they give you some of their ceviche that comes with tostadas and crackers. Their ceviche is one of our family's favorite dishes to order when we don't feel like cooking at home. I got the pasta Brava that's super tasty.
