Big's Chicken — Restaurant in Portland

I have travelled... a LOT, and this chicken joint is the BEST chicken joint I've EVER been to. I order from here regularly, I've started going in person a bit as well when I can, and hands down this is my favorite food to order when I'm in a take out mood. If I have a bad day, this is one of the few places on my comfort list. The chicken is always delicious and tender (honestly my wings were slightly overcooked ONE time and it was STILL phenomenal... HOW??), the broccoli could make a child love broccoli, any dish with potatoes (jojos, mashed) will make your heart sing. They're fast yet the food is tender, crispy; all the right things. It's just amazing. I have raved about this place to my friends and family around the world and you best believe I will be taking any future visitors here. If you've had a bad day or a long week and need comfort food, I highly suggest this place. Between the deliciousness and the food coma you'll have a big ol' smile on your face.

If I had to say ANYTHING that I wish this place had, and this is PURELY my own internal wishes so honestly very biased because if they had these two things here I may never eat anywhere else ever: Buffalo wing option. I know they have a buffalo sauce you can get with the wings but it's different obviously when it's prepared proper and this delicious chicken soaked and prepped in a buffalo sauce... I think they'd be masters. Gluten free fried chicken option. Again, biased idea. Only because I'm gluten intolerant so the idea of a chicken joint as delicious as this with a gluten free fried chicken/sandwich would just melt my heart from happiness. But you best believe I will continue to frequent this place regardless of whether or not that ever happens.

The thing that stuck out the most at this establishment was the decor, the seasoning, presentation, and crunch of the food.

I ordered the fried chicken sandwich a la carte, which is nice because I’m not big on jo-jo fries. The Sammie had a great crunch to it and it tasted amazing with the white gold and Fresno sauce on it. I like that they don’t drench the friend chicken in it and turn it soggy. It allows the chicken to be crunchy then with the pickles it’s on it makes it more crunchy. The potato bun was soft and pair great with everything.

Instead of fries I got a 6 piece of their wings and they did not disappoint. They smoke, then fry them and cover them in dry spice. They’re crunchy and taste very flavorful. I wish I would gotten 12. It wasn’t enough food that I went and ordered some of the fried Mac n cheese bites. Once again crunchy they blended nicely with the zesty ranch and Fresno sauce, Cheesy as well and they brought at the perfect temp not overly hot.

My girl friend ordered the PDX Hot Chicken sammie. HEADS UP the heat will catch up as you eat the sandwich. It’s not super hot, I give it a 6 out of 10, with a 10 being super hot. The zesty ranch and maple sarat gat sauce pair perfectly with the chicken thigh and remains, you guessed it, crunchy. Then you put it in between two slices of Texas toast and you get a great tasting sammie that’ll get you breathing and sweating a little.

Have been back and forth daily to Providence Portland Medical Center for the past 3 weeks. Decided to give this place a try as I was tired of all the "ethnic" food and food truck fare. 1st time I had the Jerk chicken sandwich. This was a delicious blend of pretty spicy jerk sauce balanced by pineapple and I believe Cole slaw. Definitely on the spicy side as my tongue and mouth had that tingling reaction for a good 15 minutes even after trying to cool It down with some fatty candy bar. Went in a few days later and had the chicken thighs. The overnight marinade of the fresno peppers was a win as it was just the right amount of heat. When I looked at it I thought they were going to be dry and boy was I mistaken. Cooked to perfection and totally moist. Tonight my daughter ordered the chicken wings. She normally doesn't even like chicken and these were fantastic. She wasn't expecting a dry rub and thought exactly that, that they would be dry.
