This place arguably makes the best tacos in the PDX. I used to live down the street from this hidden gem and would drop in 3-4 times a week. I've since moved across town but I still drop by as often as I can, 3-4x a week. Haha, almost. Feeling down? Have a taco! Feeling the need to celebrate? Have a taco! Just in the area? Have a taco!
It's an unusual setup being in a convenience store, but for such a small space, they have a surprisingly large selection. My wife and I have settled on the carnitas taco as our go-to. It's the perfect blend of crispy, fatty, juicy, savory, etc. The regular tortillas are great, but sometimes it's worth the upgrade to the handmade tortilla for a more substantial size. With the guac within, eating this taco really makes the world feel perfect (for the 1 minute it takes to devour it).
There are several salsas and each one is unique. I usually mix it up between the habanero and jalapeno, but they have a milder tomatillo as well as a traditional (which I find even spicier than the habanero).
To top it off, the folks staffing the restaurant and store, Adrian, Chelsea, Robert and the rest of the crew, are just great! They can get busy during the typical lunchtime rush, so I usually call ahead of time to get my order in.
They recently had a great write-up in Eater PDX which I invite...
Read moreWeird place - a convenience store with a kitchen so the atmosphere is very unusual. That said, friendly service, smells delicious, generous seating area out front went etc.
They don't seem to offer any real menus inside that I saw, instead just a simple sign listing all their different proteins. I ordered tacos, one birria and one green chili pork, only be told that I had to buy the green chili pork two at a time. Sort of bizarre but I switched to carnitas.
I paid a buck extra for the homemade tortillas, so both tacos were pretty large.
They offered three different salsas, a red, and orange and green. They weren't really hot to mild like I expected. Instead all three were medium spice, but very interesting unique flavor. I have to think they make them here.
Overall, absolutely delicious, and I will be here again each time I have to bring my wife to a doctor's appointment at Providence just down the street. With a hurt ankle she can't drive, so her...
Read moreWe tried for first time today. Got the nachos with carnitas, carnitas tacos, asada tacos and burria (one beef, one goat) with a side of consume. Everything tasted great, super fresh, tons of meat in the tacos too. The nachos were super cheesy, layered well, lots of guac sauce. Their pico had a nice bite, but not too hot. The green and standard taco sauces were tasty, the standard red is spicy AF, I can't imagine what their habanero sauce was like. Decent value (although prices were higher than the online menu we saw originally: $2.75 tacos, $3.50 for birria, $1.50 extra if you want fresh made tortilas, $1.50 for 16 oz cup of consume - glad we only got the one). People in the market were super nice and helpful, and there was ample seating. Drinks are self serve from the market, and were not well stocked (all the diet soda was gone, but we found sugar free Snapple). Would go back to...
