Edit: Please fix your oder line issues. The rearranging of some of the tables and fixtures, along with going down to one register has your line jacked. I now avoid this location and go to Sellwood instead. I love the employees at the Woodstock location but the flow and placement of employees makes no sense, especially at the register. You have only have one register yet the person ringing you up is constantly leaving their "station" to get pastries and coffee. It seems very inefficient to constantly be switching from position to position. Okay rant over. Please fix so I can make this my regular spot again.
I love GCB as a whole. However, I do not understand how they structure their service. It makes no sense to me at all. Having worked in cafes most of my really adulthood their structure seems disorganized and chaotic ( some stores are better than others). So often their POS line is really long and very slow. Yet there are plenty of employees filling online orders. All while the one chashier rings people through and is constantly stepping away to gather coffee and pastries. Employees move from position to position from moment to moment (with the exception of the grill it seems). Anyway, their food is always amazing, coffee varies by barista experience, but that's...
Read moreEDIT (2 years later): The service has greatly improved. I'm upping it from 2 to 4 stars.
Original review: The food is fine, but the service is absolutely infuriating. First, there was only one person in line in front of me who ordered two things, but it still took more than a reasonable amount of time to get to the front of the line. The worst thing was the cashier who served me couldn't be bothered to grab a cinnamon roll and a croissant that were literally a foot and a half from his hand after I paid and asked him for my food, citing a "weird order of operations that would be boring to explain" - ...it's like they're trying to test your patience. After I ordered, (two items that were on display in the glass case DIRECTLY NEXT TO THE CASHIER - nothing prepared) I had to stand there while the cashier helped several other customers. I finally had to ask for my food. It's a BAKERY - when people order food, just give them the damned food. It's like they want people to stand around and be irritated. Just take care of one customer at a time and actually give them the thing they paid for instead of relying on your "order of operations" to justify your...
Read moreI always drive by a Grand Central Bakery, but usually avoid pastries with icing and are really sweet.
Grand Central has a nice selection of pasteries, artisan bread and a cafe with soup, salad and sandwiches.
I selected a rustic cinnamon roll, a blueberry scone, a Cherry Danish and a Trial Mix Cookie.
The cinnamon roll was sticky with caramel and not really sweet.
The Danish was thick, sweet, covered in icing and had a nice cherry taste.
The cookie and the scone had a nice taste to them.
The bakery offers U-bake items such as pizza, pie and chocolate chip dough.
Located on SE Woodstock and 44th avenue across from Bi-Mart.
Parking is limited to the side streets.
Grand Central has something to offer for everybody from pasteries, breads, U - bake, drinks and a cafe...
