Tl;dr: All in all don't eat here unless you like: rubbery, possibly undercooked chicken, old bbq pork, and ultra thicccc hot n' sour soup. The beef skewers are good tho, but with so many options for Chinese in PDX, why not choose somewhere better first?
This place looked great, till I got the food. It all looked visually appealing, but the taste left a whole heckuva lot to de desired, and left me concerned at points.
The one item I can come out of this saying it tasted great, and didn't make me worry about my health and safety, is the teriyaki beef skewers. Super nice flavor; tender beef. Wish I would have just ordered a bunch of these badboys instead of wasting 30 bucks on the other stuff that got trashed. This right here is where the second star in my rating comes from.
The chicken was like chewing on a piece of gum. I tried like 10 of the pieces that were like that before finding an edible one. Chicken is usually an easy one for me to get down, especially breaded and with delicious sauces, but this was just gross, and left me a little worried for how I might feel tomorrow; even only eating one or two pieces.
Didnt even feel comfortable trying the breaded shrimp after the chicken ordeal, straight in the garbage without a review, unfortunately..
The hot and sour soup is overly thick, like hot and sour robitussin, and the flavor was unlike any other hot and sour soup I've tried. It wasn't terrible flavor wise, but that uber thick broth was just too offputting.
Bbq pork just looked and tasted old, could only stomach a...
Read moreThis place is the best kind of dive, the kind of place that exists in a sort of bubble, never changing as the world outside speeds by. Literally, this place is in a little strip of stores wedged between the two roads that meet here. There's a stellar laundromat also in this strip, so I go to the lounge while my denim takes a spin. It's a local crowd, a bunch of old timers getting plastered on domestic beer ($1.75 for a tallboy of Hamm's all day) or stiff-as-a-board drinks. You definitely want a long island iced tea if booze is your thing, mixed from scratch it's a genuine cocktail... The food is straight American Chinese, your usual orange-colored chicken and spring rolls (which are on the happy hour menu). You can order food from the lounge until 2AM, making this one of the only places in south Portland you can physically go for food and drinks super late (they also deliver that late as well via GrubHub). The setting could be described as well-used. I've heard more than a few people come through the front door saying how the place hasn't changed one bit. The average age in the lounge on a recent Friday afternoon was 'retired', and they've been regulars since you could smoke inside.
This is not a destination spot, it's a neighborhood secret that serves a robust crowd cheap booze and Chinese. You can expect to eat and drink for under $20 and feel satisfied, or buy someone a beer and still have change left over to dry your clothes. Don't expect sunlight in the lounge or new furniture and fixtures. Do go...
Read moreThe food is excellent but the service is awful. I would recommend this place for takeout or delivery but not dining in. My roommate and I went to Jumbo for lunch. There were only two tables occupied when we arrived. It took unnecessarily long for the waitress to take our order. When she did she took my order only and walked away. We had to get her attention to point out she had not taken my roommate's order. After our ticket was put in, a family of 4 arrived and was seated near us. They ordered after us as well, but got their food (which required no more preparation than ours) a full 10 minutes before we did - despite arriving and ordering before them. When we finally got our food we were starving - it took 30 minutes (!!!) after we ordered to get our meals. When we finished the waitress offered to box up our leftovers for us. It took her 10 minutes to do so. We literally watched her take it into the kitchen and despite sufficient staffing, proceeded to help other customers while our food just sat there. To add insult to injury, our waitress NEVER came to check how our meal was. Instead a man we had not even seen, much less interacted with, apparated as if from nowhere to fill our water (fyi we only got one water refill in nearly an hour until after our food was completed then it was as if they couldn't refill our water often enough) and HE asked how our meal was. To be honest my roommate and I both felt awkward at this and snubbed overall.
Great food. Worst service I've ever...
