LaVerne’s — Restaurant in Portland

Lavernes is such a gem. We went during their opening weekend and loved it. The salad is my favorite menu item so far (yes it’s a salad but it’s like a really good salad), the chicken is also incredible and such an affordable way to feed a crew. We have loved the cocktails as well—Summer Somewhere is my personal fave. The tiny tini—it’s a little martini—is cute and delicious! The slushies are also a lovely little treat and give you a little tropical vacation vibe. And do NOT skip the brownies if they have them available—so good with a little kick to them…I have not stopped thinking about them.

This is a happy place and fun for all ages. Prices are workable for family/friend groups to share, kids are welcome, and staff are great. Their aim is to be a neighborhood pub and it looked like that already on a day 2, with ladies playing cards back by the photo booth, a mother-daughter duo sharing chicken and a chat, and bar stools full of neighbors and friends, with picnic tables outside surrounded by kids, dogs and pedestrians. And the decor is a wonderful mix of antiques, art, Portland memoriabilia, and lamps from all eras. Laverne’s Bar is exactly what the neighborhood needed! It’s got that perfect mix of a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a fresh, throwback jukejoint vibe. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, the drinks are spot-on, and the menu has something for everyone. You can tell a lot of thought went into making this a true community spot—it’s comfortable enough to hang out with friends, but still feels like a special place for a night out.
