The Portland Piedmont Guesthouse is excellent, as is the owner Gary! This is the place to stay if you are going to Portland for whatever reason. The house itself is great, the neighborhood and location are great, and the owner is exceptional.
The house is lovely, comfortable, and very well equipped. For example, there is a lint roller in case you want to clean up for that special occasion. This is the attention to detail provided by Gary. There are various coffee makers, etc. The place works well for people of all ages and abilities, both young and old alike; there are high chairs and grab bars, which were greatly appreciated. We enjoyed playing Yahtzee, Chutes and Ladders and other games. We came during the holidays and there were many holiday family videos available. Decorative house flag and flowers in front. Patio with festive lights in back. Beautiful, comfortable, well appointed home.
The location is ideal. Quiet neighborhood, and yet only one block over from Safeway, Walgreens, Starbucks and a gas station so you can easily pick up supplies, or get your morning papers, etc. Within a very short distance are streets such as Alberta which offers some great dining and shopping options. For example, Petit Provence is one of the best bakeries you'll find in any city. Whole Foods, various parks and other amenities all close by. You have easy access to downtown via Rosa Parks. And you're relatively close to the airport as well. Again, nice neighborhood setting with the benefit of being close to downtown and roads to airport and sites outside of town such as Gorge.
Gary the owner is superb in so many ways. He excels at communication. Gary is gracious and considerate. He responses to inquiries in a very timely manner. He checks to make sure that communication is understood. He is thorough and thoughtful, anticipating the specific needs of guests. For example, we were arriving at night after it had snowed and there was black ice. Gary purchased and spread kitty litter in anticipation of the arrival of my 89-year-old mother in order to ensure her safety walking up the path. One family member has extensive environmental allergies; this includes cleaning products. Gary asked which products would work. He double checked to make sure that everything was copacetic, and said that he would personally oversee the cleaning of the property prior to our arrival. Gary really wants you to enjoy your stay at the house, in the neighborhood, and in Portland and its environs. And you will!
This trip was a family gathering for my daughter's wedding. I have travelled to Portland and Washington often over the years on account of family living in the area. When it came time to plan for the wedding, I knew that the Portland Piedmont Guesthouse was the place that I...
Read moreMy family and I , 11 of us lived in Gary's home for 5 nights. We had a great time. Gary agreed for us to check in early as we had to move from a location which held fewer people in preparation for our big wedding. That was nice because we had not talked to him about it earlier yet he agreed right away.
The ambiance inside the home was tasteful and carefully put together. He had every thing we needed to set up for the party. When he did not have it he went out of this way to get it for us. He got chafing dishes and a cooler for our use.
The house was perfect for our party of 30 people and Gary accommodated all of our needs. The back yard was large enough to accommodate 20 seated guest and a food table.
When the city advised that they would turn off the water supply for some routine maintenance he got them to delay the shut down as we were in the midst of cooking.
There were so many towels, sheets, pillows and blankets for all the 11 people in the house for the entire period.
The home is in a great location close to banks, Starbucks and Safeway. It is a safe neighborhood.
Gary's home is highly recommended. I guarantee you will have a great stay...
Read moreWhen I searched for a place to stay in Portland for our daughter’s wedding, I wanted something that was spacious enough both for privacy and togetherness, so the many out-of-town relatives could enjoy each other pre and post wedding. I looked for something that wasn’t too far from downtown Portland and the wedding venue, yet far enough away to be in a quiet and safe neighborhood, with ample parking, easy access to and from the airport and great restaurants within walking distance. And I hoped that we would land in a place where the host both catered to our needs yet left us alone to enjoy the house. We found all of this and more at Gary Beckler’s Portland Piedmont Guesthouse: large bedrooms, great communal spaces, fully equipped kitchen, more towels and bedding than you could dream of and even those many incidentals that you thought to pack then forgot. Gary is an amazing host who obviously takes great pride in making his guests feel welcome, so the Portland Piedmont Guesthouse definitely became our home away from home. Plus his restaurant recommendations were a huge hit. So if you’re looking for a great place to stay in Portland, this...
