Recently, I gave this place three stars due to receiving a very watered down Americano. But know that this is not the fault of the servers who work there. It seems that immediately after I posted that review, someone, likely the owner, called the working employee to come and ask me if my coffee was alright. I let her know that I'd never had an Americano of any size, watered down like that. I then came to learn that the owner's policy is that no matter the size of your Americano, it is still no more than two shots; in other words, you receive no additional coffee, though you pay for more coffee. All that is done is that more water is added. So all you're paying extra for when you buy a large one, is more water. Yet you're charged as though you're paying for more actual coffee. The employee very graciously offered to give me a regular, small Americano, so I would have one that was less watered down. I accepted, and still received an Americano that was very, very weak. I feel for the workers here, but the owner, evidently, is not interested in giving customers a good value for their money. This place is within walking distance from me, but now, I'll take the trouble to go elsewhere for my coffee. And - though it is not the employees' fault in any way - I'm now downgrading my review from three to two stars. The only reason I'm not downgrading all the way to one star, is because of the workers, who don't deserve to have to take the blame for this...
Read moreI moved near the Glisan location months ago and was excited to have a coffee shop nearby. When I first arrived to get coffee and a bagel I stood outside the front door awaiting someone to greet me. Sadly they use a baby monitor or some sort of speaker intercom to talk to customers and if it’s your first time there you don’t realize you need to speak to a wall to get acknowledged. When I tried to place a order at the window they told me to do it online. So I got my phone out and started ordering and the whole process took an extra 5-10 minutes. I then proceeded to wait outside for my order while talking with a friend. I waited roughly another 25-35 minutes assuming someone would either bring my order to the window or speak over the intercom to tell me it was ready but they didn’t. When I received my food and drinks they told me they didn’t have the bagel I was charged extra to upgrade to. They substituted it for a plain one without even asking me. I was fairly upset with my first experience so I didn’t return for a while. Since then I have gone back a few times and every time I feel like the service and attitude of employees is so poor. I understand that there a pandemic and people are taking precautions to protect everyone but this place isn’t worth the time or money for such...
Read moreReviewing Seven Virtues as a coffee roaster -- so when I moved to Portland I made it a mission to try ever local roaster (we have a lot!) and that means that over the past year I've tried about a dozen roasters. I do espresso at home, mainly cappuccinos so I'm always looking for beans that will yield strong flavor notes that will not be easily overwhelmed by milk. Of all the PDX roasters I will now say that Seven Virtues is in my top 2, maybe even my favorite. Their coffee is consistent and always so interesting in the cup. I can actually pull out the tasting notes on the bag! I think one thing you can say about some roasters is that they are good but not special, as in they roast good coffee but there was no reason to drive across town to get it. Seven Virtues is worth it the drive for me, their roasts are always distinct with a good bit of funk. I get a lot of fruity, fermented notes in the cup and with milk added it's just what I consider to be coffee perfected. I wish I was better with words but the gist is that they are putting out a distinctive and wonderful product and for now they are the only roaster I will buy from (until something else...
