I live in the neighborhood 0/16 came in for drinks with my small service dog & was served politely by the Hawaiian looking gentleman at the bar (can’t remember his name). The guest took a lot of interest in him & we all had good conversations for about 2 hours, they fed him turkey & we’re super sweet. There was an incident where a lady approached him & tried to pet him & he barked but once I introduced them he allowed her to pet him. He’s about 10lbs he couldn’t hurt a fly if he wanted to. He’s also not an aggressive dog he only barked two times. I’ve brought him in on 2 other occasions & was never denied service or told there were no dogs allowed by any of the bartenders that've helped me previously. After having a welcoming experience the day prior, I decided to go back & bring my dog for a walk as well this time trying to get some food. Upon entering I noticed there were 2 different bartenders who didn’t seem nice at all. A elderly blond with bangs & glasses & an elderly grumpy old man with glasses, who came in when I was in there the day prior - & I was told by the bartender working that he infused the tequilas. He sat at the table as a guest & had a couple drinks. He was the only person that didn’t interact with me or my dog but I thought nothing of it as I assumed he was just coming in to catch up on some work/ wanted to be left alone. He did give us some side stares & as a mixed person in Portland you don’t really expect anything less from elderly Caucasian people. Like stated I returned 06/17 & as soon as I walked in he told me “No dogs allowed, you need to leave.” I replied back “I remember you from yesterday, I’ve been here with him & was not denied service. You also don’t know that he’s not a service dog.” He replied to me saying “he knows but he assumed my dog wasn’t a service dog because he barked at the lady who came up behind us & approached us closely.” Anybody that knows service animals knows they’re trained to protect. All he did was bark & once I told him it was okay he literally let her pet him & eased up. That’s what dogs are supposed to do. I share my experience to say I believe this man was just denying me service because of my race & I’ll never spend a dime here again. They don’t need to worry about me, my money or my dog. I feel sorry for the nice bartenders who have to work with this individual & it reflect portly on the establishment & them. If you’re not white I don’t recommend...
Read moreWe walked in and immediately asked for a food menu — the waitress (bleached blonde hair, glasses, maybe late 40s, around 5'5") looked at us like we had asked her to explain quantum physics. Completely dumbfounded. Like she had never heard of food before or a menu. No “hello,” no “welcome,” just a blank stare and an attitude.
It only got worse from there. She spoke to us like we were beneath her. Cold, dismissive, and completely checked out. Our food sat visibly at the counter for several minutes while she stood around talking. By the time it got to us, it was lukewarm at best.
Reading through other reviews, this is clearly not a fluke. Adam Ryding wrote 11 years ago about horrible service and a waitress too busy eating a corn dog to get orders right. Mike mentioned being yelled at for using a dartboard six months ago. That same kind of unwelcoming, superior attitude and energy? We felt it the moment we stepped in. I guess some things never change, even after 12 years...
The vibe of the place matched the service — dark, outdated, and stale. Just like the food. We won't be back, and honestly, I’d recommend going anywhere else or just...
Read moreMy bf and I travel and do eat out a lot. And drink….. never have we ever had such a horrible experience in Portland. Sunday night football was what we wanted to watch with some good drinks and eats! We didn’t get that….we walk in and walk to the bar and no one says anything to us, bartender, 3 waitresses walking around. We finally get someone who “sees” us and order a beer( they don’t have ipa) and a cider. Cider was good.
Then We ordered food:
Hot wings: asked for them to be extra crispy with sauce on side. Got wings soggy with sauce on them.
Fish and chips(got onion rings instead): Fish was rubbery, and I would give my left big toe that they are frozen, couldn’t eat. Tarter is sweet and nasty. Onion rings were good frozen ones I guess.
Western burger and Fries: asked for seasoned fries, didn’t receive. Burger was ok.
Bloody Mary: now let’s just talk about this…. I could read the menus thru it. Nasty watered down salty well vodka “drink”
This experience was so disappointing. $63 down the drain. So sad. Hope they can do better with their customer service and food.
I WOULD NEVER RETURN OR...
