During our recent Jeeping excursion, my girlfriend and I stumbled upon the Mountain View Cafe in Portola, and it turned out to be the perfect spot for breakfast. Here's why our experience was noteworthy:
We were greeted by a cheerful and friendly staff when we stepped into the Mountain View Cafe. Their warm and welcoming attitude set a positive tone for the dining experience. The restaurant's clean and inviting atmosphere also added to the overall pleasant ambiance.
As for the food, I ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs, sunnyside up, wheat toast, and hashbrowns. The chicken fried steak was spot on, and the accompanying gravy was deliciously flavorful. However, I felt my toast could have been toasted a bit longer. The hashbrowns, although tasty, was not as crispy as I preferred and were similar to what you'd find at other breakfast establishments. On the bright side, my eggs were cooked to perfection, which added to the enjoyment of the meal.
My girlfriend opted for the Chorizo Scramble with a pancake and was thoroughly pleased with her choice. The eggs in her scramble were done perfectly, and she couldn't stop raving about how well they were prepared. The pancake served as a delightful addition, adding a touch of sweetness to her savory meal. She expressed her utmost satisfaction and even expressed a desire to revisit the cafe on our next stay in Portola.
Overall, the Mountain View Cafe provided us with a fantastic breakfast experience. The delicious chicken fried steak and flavorful gravy were highlights of my meal, despite the slight drawbacks with the toast and hashbrowns. Thanks to the perfectly cooked eggs, my girlfriend's Chorizo Scramble and pancake left her completely satisfied. The friendly and cheerful staff and the clean and inviting atmosphere made our visit all the more enjoyable.
If you're in Portola and seeking a breakfast spot before embarking on your adventure, I recommend trying the Mountain View Cafe. While there were a few minor areas for improvement, the overall experience was positive, and we would happily return for...
Read moreOwner "greeter" is a disgusting low-life who took my order: crispy hashbrown's. Cook (co-owner?) doesn't know how to make this simple food. Served white, cold hash browns by owner who was defensive when I asked to be served what I had ordered. Took my plate, brought me back white, cold hash browns. I calmly asked him to take the plate and issue me a refund. He berated me in front of other patrons while taking the plate away. I walked to the counter for my refund, which he refused to issue. I took the $1 tip he saw me put in the jar earlier, and he claimed that I was stealing his money as he forced me out. That is total abuse of clients and restaurant regulations. The sheriff has been called on them!
Luna's is good, Headwater's is great - both were closed today, which of course this a-hole owner takes...
Read moreWe loved going to the MVC in its old location. Staff was always friendly and happy to see us even when busy. New location needs some polishing for sure. But itâs been closed for years and after all itâs Portola. Not many polished places in Portola. The food has always been solid. Never astounding but what youâd expect from a small town dinner. Decent portions, hot, tasty, pretty fast and inexpensive for what you get. So weâll be back AND weâll be thankful and supportive of a small family run business working hard to make a living in a small rural...
