JMT Vegan Eats (Eats & Sweets) — Restaurant in Portsmouth

I don't know if you have ever hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores, but I have been doing this for over 20 years. Many of my beloved family members are vegan or vegetarian and every year our vegan dishes have been hit or miss. Despite our best intentions, we don't always get it right. I was really thrilled to find JMT eats and the amazing Ivory, who is the owner. They put together a selection of Thanksgiving dishes for us that were every bit as good (if not better) than the non-vegan versions. In fact, we had a hard time keeping the non-vegans out of the vegan food. Truly our best (mac and cheese and banana pudding!) Thanksgiving ever. Since then, we've become big fans and we celebrated when we heard that Valentine's Day would bring heart-shaped meatloaf with sides and sweets! As if that wasn't enough, Ivory invited us to her new storefront at 5660 Indian River Road in Virginia Beach to be among her first customers. We met her amazing and talented family and found out where the inspiration (and the decadent ice cream) comes from. What a joy! It is a small black owned family vegan business. They were so kind and fun they made us feel as if we were part of the family. They were them selves and weren't faking the customer service. Sadly they are only opened on the weekends because they don't have enough business coming through to open on the week days. They do catering. They make vegan ice cream from scratch no soy. They make their desserts from scratch. They are responsibly priced. I got a Ramen set with all the toppings, the rice with plant based chicken and jerk steak with two sides which I got Mac and cheese and well seasoned fries. And my friend got the vegan salmon patty I believe with her two sides. And one scoop of home made vegan ice cream vanilla flavored. Around $60 so about $20 per item. They have different kinds of vegan instant Ramen that you can prepare yourself and they give you veggies to put inside. They have board games and a TV. It's a small inimate place. Show them some love support their business really delicious food and kind people. And I don't play when it comes to my food I am big foodie but even days after storing my food it taste really good and my co worker said it...

I'm starting this review by stating that I am not a vegan or vegetarian in any way shape or form. That being said I went for breakfast with my vegetarian girlfriend and had some of the best breakfast in a long time. The ladies behind the counter were very helpful with the menu and explained everything and how it was prepared. Everything is made fresh and delicious. I had the waffles with the vegan eggs and sausage. Some of the most flavorful and crispy outside fluffy inside waffles I've ever had. The eggs were made out of tofu and when I say those ladies did things to that tofu that I would have thought was impossible with tofu. I can't wait to come back for lunch...OMG I almost forgot about the doughnuts, they are the kind of doughnuts that win awards. 20/10 will...
