My coworker and I finally made it to this adorable little sandwich shop in Old Down Portsmouth that we’ve been wanting to try. I got the Classic Club sandwich on marble rye, along with some chips and a drink... oh, and a baked potato too! The sandwich was massive and loaded with turkey, ham, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. The baked potato was really big as well, topped with cheddar, so I know I’ll have leftovers for later!
When we walked in, we were the only customers, so we didn't have to wait long for our sandwiches to be made fresh. The owner was super friendly and chatted with us while we waited for our food. There were a few tables inside, but you could easily take your meal to go. They were nice enough to give us a sample of their chicken salad, which was tasty too. We were lucky to find a parking spot right in front of the shop. I hope more people come by as the weather gets warmer because this little sandwich shop has great prices and...
Read moreWe stopped by The Downtown Eatery located on High Street in the heart of downtown Portsmouth today.
This is a fantastic place to enjoy a great sandwich for Lunch. Wendy was doing double duty handing both the counter, as well as making the sandwiches.
I ordered a Corned Beef and Pastrami Sandwich with a side of Potato Salad. My Wife has a Turkey Sandwich with a side of Macaroni Salad. Both were excellent. They are generous with the meat on their sandwiches here, and we probably could have split one for both of us, along with the sides that we ordered, but what the hell, you live only once!
Chris, the owner popped in, just as Wendy finished making our sandwiches, and chatted with us for a while. He and Wendy both made us feel right at home!
If there is one a critique, I would encourage them to get a liquor license. Otherwise, everything was great! I highly recommend this wonderful eatery...
Read moreLoved it!!! Clean, delicious, local, friendly, vegetarian options!!! We stopped by as we got into town after driving from Kansas City via Pittsburgh on a Monday at around 1:45pm and almost nothing else, especially nothing else local/ non- chain seemed to be open. We got a ham and Swiss (instead of provolone) with a cup of chicken noodle soup. Also delicious and expertly homemade. And a toasted egg salad on sourdough with a cup of tomato bisque. Perfect no notes. Huge portion sizes yet not enough lol. The cost was shockingly reasonable and the staff were so sweet! I am just sad that we don’t live close enough to turn into regulars. Oh, and the bathroom was super clean. And the location is also very accessible and had minimal steps or elevation changes and wide walk ways and substantial and padded chairs.
Thank you, it was a...
