Worth the visit. Interesting local area to walk around while you're there. Museum tickets are inexpensive and the self-guided museum tour would probably take 60 to 90 minutes for adults. The museum is probably good for just 15 to 20 minutes for children since most of the exhibits involve reading and photos. However, there is also a "hands on" knots and lashes table for children if they are into that. The museum provides an excellent pictorial history...

Fantastic, easily overlooked museum. The exhibits cover the history of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, a center for warship construction and repair since the revolutionary war. You'll also find exclusive relics from long gone ships, such as USS Chesapeake, CSS Virginia, and USS Texas (BB-1). Fantastic for Naval history buffs and anyone interested in local history. Add to that friendly staff and a surprisingly...

Didn’t go inside the museum but the location is stunningly beautiful. I can see why ships from Liverpool and elsewhere from across the North Atlantic (expecting God knows what in the colony of Virginia) would land here with and without the enslaved and Indentured on board. The beginning of the end for the indigenous and the beginning of the new world north made by the settler colonialists and their slaves.
