We got off the freeway in Price specifically for ice cream. We arrived approximately 5 minutes to closing. They were very friendly and didn't complain about making them stay open longer; one of the girls told us they serve until the parking lot is empty. That is very unique and customer friendly.
We ordered small skakes with candy pieces (reeses and oreo). The candy portions were very generous compared to large chains in the city. It was so thick we couldn't drink it through their fat straws! The chocolate was also not fake tasting; nothing like the Hershey syrup used elsewhere.
As far as helpful feedback, I think they should rework the menu for visibility. It is an old fashioned sign with faded and missing letters. The pricing was faded and it didn't show the mini shake size that others had ordered. (From what understand, it is a new addition to their size options.) This would have been good to know since my kids ended up not being able to finish the small. We were trying to pick flavors based on the posted specials when the girl told us they have most flavors/candy add-ins on top of the monthly specials. That was helpful, but it would be nice to read what is specifically available.
Overall, perfect traditional mom and pop stop, at least...
Read moreWe thought it was our lucky day when we pulled into Sherald's Drive-in on 2/16/21 because there was only a couple others cars there. For any of you that have been to Sherald's before you may know what I mean. I personally have had carhops explain that the wait time can be up to 45 minutes when they are busy. In less than five minutes we were able to place our order. In just a few minutes she delivered our food and drinks minus the napkins. The grilled chicken burger arrived hot. Unfortunately, the chicken pattie which only covered about 2/3 of the bun was found to be undercooked with the second bite which daunted the appetite. The sandwich ended up back in the carton to be taken home for the dog after a stint in the microwave. The pastrami dog was tasty but difficult to eat. The lower bun was in a couple of pieces with the other ingredients placed on the top of it. The pastrami itself had to be tucked into the bun because it was just thrown on the top of the hot dog and bun. If the person eating it hadn't reconstructed it the pastrami would have surely ended up in their lap of on the floor. I can personally attest that this is not the norm for Sherald's Drive-in. Guess we weren't as lucky...
Read moreI try to hit Sherald's at least once when I'm in town for work, several times a year. It's a pretty standard classic drive-in type restaurant, with pretty standard fare. I can't say that the food has been anything more than about average, for what it is, but it's really not bad. The food is definitely worth paying a tad extra to support them, vs sending your money into the pockets of a big chain restaurant. I have to say I do quite like their English chips.
On my last visit I figured I'd try the gyro. Now, I knew better than to order a gyro from a tiny little joint run by teenagers, in a tiny little town, but it sounded good and I was feeling particularly adventurous. Sure enough, the meat was about as dry as jerky (not exaggerating), and almost everything about it wreaked of "been sitting out for days." I can't dock them stars for that, though, because I got what I was expecting. I just question if they should trim a few of the more unusual items out of their menu together; if it won't be fresh, why bother?
Overall, I recommend trying them out. Food options in Price are slim, and Sherald's really isn't a bad option for a quick, average...
