When a popular bakery in Prospect Park changed ownership in 2019, the drop in quality was obvious from day one. It didn’t last long and eventually ran out of business. That’s why I was glad to hear that Maria’s (Prime Time) Bakery, a long-time staple in the area, was opening a new location in Prospect Park.
I stopped by the first day Maria's Bakery opened (August 2024), bought a few things, and everything was excellent. I also got to meet the owner—turns out her name isn’t Maria, but she grew up in Prospect Park. I wished her luck, and I’ve been back many times since.
Most recently, I picked up a birthday cake, cupcakes, and other treats for a party. The cake was a strawberry shortcake with chocolate icing—not your typical angel food base, but their own rich vanilla cake. It was outstanding.
This place has everything you'd expect from a true Delco (Delaware County PA) bakery—plus their specialty offerings. Just a sample of what they make:
Pastries & Sweets: Almond Horseshoes, Apple Strudel, Bear Claws, Bread Pudding, Cherry Cheese Pockets, Cream Puffs, Eclairs, Elephant Ears, Fruit Turnovers, Homontosh, King Cake, Lady Locks, Pecan Bars, Sfogliatelle, St. Joseph Cakes... and way more.
Other highlights: – 28 varieties of cake – 27 types of pie – 18 kinds of cheesecake – 16 kinds of cookies – 7 types of dessert bars
Located just one exit south of the Philly Airport off I-95 (about 2 miles), it’s an easy in-and-out stop.
While it’s best to order ahead for holidays or events, they keep the cases well-stocked—so you can usually drop in last-minute and walk out with...
Read moreIt was confusing trying to find the new location because it's in the Amoco parking lot. Two female staff were arguing loudly about shift hours when I entered the store. They continued to argue while the nice young lady waited on me. I was beyond disappointed when I arrived home & opened the box with the Italian Easter bread I had ordered. I specifically ordered a braided wreath shaped bread with a light drizzle of icing to trim the wreath..There's no way you could tell it's braided, much less a wreath shape because of the massively thick white blob of icing poured all over the entire top of the bread. I see no "ring or wreath" shape at all. The bread is a solid, rock hard boulder with icing & sprinkles. They already had it secured in the box when I arrived, so I was unaware of the monstrosity they sold me. 20 bucks & tax. Had I known how badly they botched the bread, I'd have never bought the additional ricotta cookies I purchased. They are tasteless, dry lumps of dough. I'm too embarrassed to bring any of these "sweets" to our family Easter dinner, so now I'm left scrambling to find...
Read moreMaria’s bakery has been a Delco staple for decades! My dad loved to go to bakeries and support them. Traubs used to be good and winded up closing as a result. He seemed to frequent Maria’s Bakery when it was in Folsom. Maria’s has moved to Prospect Park, which will be a year in August. They are off of Chester Pike where the old Subway used to be. Maria’s always had quality baked goods and made with the best ingredients. Just like any business, no one is perfect, so if you have an issue with anything let them know. They want to give their customers the best products. Bakeries are a rarity to have in our community. I would say this is one of the best in the area, if not the best! You decide and give them a try! We used to get their donuts,...
