Let me start with a qualifying statement - I’m not a big Pho guy. I’ve been a couple of times, haven’t been impressed. It’s a little intimidating - how do you get excited about soup that people can’t really explain?
Overall, the spot is pretty cool, albeit a bit neutral. It was great for the family, not stodgy, and there’s plenty of seating. Our server was great. Good awareness of the menu, welcoming, and attentive. She wasn’t pushy, but was happy to check on us. The place was slow, so we may have gotten more attention than normal, but we appreciated it!
We started with tofu spring rolls - they were crazy fresh tasting! A blade of lemongrass was a refreshing add.
No burying the lead here. This was the best pho I’ve had, by a mile! I had the chicken Pho, wife had the Vegetable (truly vegetarian broth, a hard find!!), kids had beef Pho, fried rice, and the Garlic noodles with chicken.
The chicken broth was fantastic! It was the best broth I’ve ever had. You can add and remove some jalapeño slices to control the amount of spice, or add the chili paste to jump start it. Honestly, it was INCREDIBLE. The chicken was a bit lackluster. The wife loved hers as well, and it’s rare that a vegetarian dish really impresses her. I think the beef pho was the best dish as whole - the meat was excellent, and the broth was great too. I was really impressed by the beef, I don’t know why my expectation was lower for this dish, but it was.
Don’t sleep on the garlic noodles!!! The chicken was a little reminiscent of the mall, but the flavor of the noodles was awesome. Heavy on the garlic in a good way, but you’ve been warned, lol.
Lastly we had regular fried rice and one with no veggies. Not sure why, but the sans veggies was notably better.
We’ll be back, and I would’ve lost that bet...
Read moreI’ve been excited to try this place since I saw it being constructed last year. I am delighted to have a Vietnamese restaurant in the Prosper/Celina area and Ginger Spice did not disappoint. The place is clean and fresh inside and would be a comfortable place to dine in. But tonight was their first day to be open and I just wanted to grab some pho and enjoy it at home.
I was greeted by a friendly staff. I asked for a menu to take home. It looks like they have a good selection of the usual, egg rolls, spring rolls, bahn mi sandwiches, beef, chicken, and vegetarian pho, fried rice dishes and coffees/boba teas.
I ordered the chicken pho. Initially I was disappointed that I didn’t get more broth since it is the star of the show for me. But I noticed that they are generous with their chicken and noodles, more than other pho restaurants I have tried, so maybe their version of pho is more balanced between broth and the base.
I noted that they season their noodles and protein with fresh pepper and a seasoning I couldn’t definitively pinpoint. Maybe ground star of anise? I loved it. I was eager to try the broth and it was fantastic. Unctuous and deeply flavorful. It is one of the better phos I’ve tried. Since I am such a fan of broth I think I will order double the broth, if I can.
Congratulations to the Ginger Spice team! I look forward to trying other items on the menu and making them my go-to choice for Vietnamese in my...
Read moreI was eager to try this place since it's conveniently close to my home, and I had high hopes for Vietnamese cuisine in the area. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. If you're seeking authentic Vietnamese food, this isn't the place for you.
The service was adequate despite us being one of only two tables at the time, but it took quite a while (30 minutes) to receive our spring rolls and egg rolls. I understand it's their soft opening, so hopefully, they'll improve this.
As for the food: The egg rolls lacked Vietnamese flavors and were quite bland. The fish sauce (Nước Mắm) was too sweet and sour at the same time but lacked garlic or red Asian peppers, definitely not balanced. The beef pho broth, which others had praised for its flavor, tasted more like a mix of pho flavors and ramen (even my wife, who is Caucasian, noticed this) it was just a hint of the more known robust flavor that pho broth should have and the broth was just warm with the noodles being undercooked .
If you're looking for a watered-down version of Vietnamese food, this might suit you, but don't expect an authentic experience. Pricing is also a bit high for what you get, especially if you were to get authentic Vietnamese...
