I don't intend to bring hardship on a business trying to open after C word. I write about my experience and my wife is a gourmet chef who critiques my blog. This restaurant is clean and situated on a corner downtown. The decor is a combination of early 20th century architecture with Hispanic flare embellishments. Service was good and attentive. We had a long day on the road and cooking at home was totally out of the question. We tried El Buen Gusto to our disappointment. You may enjoy Mexican food with little to no flavor but we do not. I had tortilla soupa. The broth was watered down so much I couldn't detect a flavor although it was a light red. I fished around for some shards of chicken through the tasteless warm broth. The taco salad was fresh however tiny for a entree size but the ground beef was cold and again with out flavor so I dumped the ramekin of tomato juice (salsa picano) over the taco salad in my quest for a flavor spike...ugh. My wife ordered chili colorado which came with diced...and you guessed, tasteless tender beef. How can you make meals tasteless? What does one do to food to avoid the rich flavor customary in these famous ethnic delights? There was people in the restaurant so perhaps your experience could be a different story. Hopefully the management changes the recipes to...
Read moreIf El Buen Gusto was a fast-food restaurant, I can see its potential realized. I enjoyed the environment, music was nice and fit well with the overall vibe.
I was disappointed with a few details here and there, such as old rice served as “fresh” and salsa bottles when asked for some salsa. Among others things, service was moderate. Staff was friendly as other reviews say, however, they at times miss a few details or serve them late. For example, if your dish comes with tortillas, they’d be delayed despite patron traffic. Or, carne asada is mostly limited to “well-done.”
I believe that El Buen Gusto can do much better. Staff is certainly improving, near the end of a patron’s meal, staff seemed more energetic, but room for improvement should always be welcomed.
Overall, Prosser’s standards for Mexican food is underwhelming, but, I’m hoping within the next years, we raise the standards higher on Mexican food. More than just saying “hola” and learning how to say “tortillas” or saying “gra-ci-as” in a beginners accent. Let’s do better...

I finally had to flag someone down and tell them they messed up our order!! No questions asked they fixed our order but still no one came by for refills or to check on us I had to get up and asked for boxes to go. I'm am not one to complain about food service but this time I did ask for the manager I got one of the owner Jose? I explained what happen and he was very apologetic I wanted to pay for our meal the food was great the service not so good. The owner refused to take our money I was more than happy to pay for the food we got. I guess my point is he didn't have to give us a free meal but he did and I thank you for that.... we...
