Having grown up in San Antonio, TX, and having lived there for most of my life, I've been used to being able to get scrumptious breakfast tacos/burritos 24 hours a day.
When I moved to Colorado in 2004, and specifically Pueblo in 2014, I was concerned that those days were over. And for good reason; I quickly discovered that the closest place that serves anything resembling good BBQ is in Springs, and even then, you have to choose wisely.
So, I was afraid my breakfast taco addiction would be cut off, cold turkey, like my BBQ addiction had been since moving to Pueblo, unless I want to drive an hour and a half round trip to Springs. - BTW, the two good places I'm recommending there are Bird Dog BBQ and Rudy's BBQ. Google them and try one out if you like Texas style BBQ, or, what I just call, the BEST BBQ. I forgot to mention it, but Dickey's BBQ Pit is pretty good, too. On the flipside of that, Avoid Front Range BBQ at all costs, but that's another review.
So after having been advised that I should try Burrito's Betty, I walked in skeptical but could tell before I even got my food that I was going to like the place, and my intuition was correct.
People say it's the little things in life that are the most important, and if that's true, the tasty food a Burrito's Betty must be one major factor in my continued sanity. Now, if you ask my wife about my that, she probably won't be as quick to confirm my sanity.
Point is, I ramble, but despite this town's having nothing remotely resembling an adequate BBQ joint (I've been told Pueblo used to have some good places), Burrito's Betty sure does make up for that void by filling it with my other great food love, excellent tacos/burritos at VERY...
Read moreIf somebody asked me about this place, the first thing I would say is: are you looking for amazing food or decent food at a reasonable price? This place is the latter.
It is better than fast food, but if you go to any real dine-in restaurants you will recognize that the quality of this food is a cut below those. However, the food is also amazingly cheap, which is the only reason I am rating this 3 stars and not 1 or 2.
This place doesn't have a dine in, but it does have an area behind the restaurant where I have parked my work truck and eaten the food fresh off the back of my tailgate. The reason I mention this is because I think the food tastes a lot better fresh (although they do wrap certain items to keep them warm), and the quality degrades pretty quickly.
The salsa that comes with chips and salsa is light to medium spiciness. It is very soupy and has no chunks like most complimentary chips and salsa you get at Mexican restaurants around Colorado. The chips are ok. They are fried tortillas and many of my chips were uncooked because they put too many strips in the fryer at once, so a bunch of them stuck together when cooking.
The cheese quesadilla I had was decent. Most I have had I would consider better than the one here but it was only $3 so it's really hard to be critical at that price.
A lot of the fries were also stuck together and were soft even though I asked for them to be cooked crispy, although I do think they had a good flavor. If they were served crispy I think they would be amazing. The cheeseburger that came with the fries was seasoned with way too much salt & pepper and was overcooked. The bun was also pretty dry, so I would not rank this very high among...
Read moreGood food and that is why they are getting 3 stars! CUSTOMERS BEWARE --Below I will explain why the food is the only thing that gets a 3 star. Everything else I would give a 1 star rating--
Be sure to check your food before you leave because even if you have a special order it isn't their fault if it is messed up, it is yours. They have a sign that says It is you responsibility to check it before you leave or they don't have to replace it if you walk out the door. If you are in a hurry, this is not the place for you and even if you call your order in, they won't make it until you show up to pick it up, (understandable that some people never show and that food is a waste). Regular customers get special treatment and can jump the line and they will get their orders taken before you that has been standing in line. The woman working the counter is just down right rude. She will change your order to make it cheaper, but then it isn't what you actually wanted. Her fingernails are horribly long and when she is annoyed she will stare at you chomping on her gum while you are trying to explain that the burrito was supposed to have no chile because it is for a child. My son took a bite of his burrito only to find that they forgot to add sausage and she took his bitten burrito into the back and added sausage, rolled it back up and gave it back to me instead of just giving me 2 sausage links. The food really is good and if my son said he would buy me a monster burrito, I wouldn't pass it up, but I no longer choose to go into Betty's to get food because it is usually messed up and certain staff members are rude...
