I've been searching for legitimate hot-served Mexican food ever since moving from Southern California, where legit Mexican food is a dime a dozen. It's been 8 years of searching but I finally found this place. Their al pastor is fantastic and they even also have great adobada (usually places only carry one or the other). Their asada is on point, the birria is great, their wide salsa bar selection is top notch, and you can swoop your Mexican medicinal/cooking and herbs from their shop while you wait for your food.
This place is by far the best Mexican food I've had since moving here. I had my dad (who is also from Southern California) try it and he agrees. My wife (NOT from Southern California) also agrees that this is the best she's had in the 25 years she's been in Colorado and that the only Mexican food she's ever had that was maybe better than this was from a late night street corner stand in Los Angeles when she visited there once.
I've found a lot of people in Colorado think "Tex-Mex" places like Hacienda Colorado or Chuy's or 3 Margaritas is real Mexican food. It's not. This place is. If your "Mexican food" consists of shredded yellow cheese, sour cream, lettuce, crunchy yellow taco shells, ground beef, or chimichangas, you're eating Tex-Mex, which is American cuisine inspired by Mexican food. If that's what you think of when you think of Mexican food, this place ain't for you.
Get the torta al pastor, an asada taco, and birria taco. If you're a fan of true Mexican food, you won't be...
Read moreReally delicious birria! I've been to one in Colorado Springs and liked it, decided to try this one. My friend got the birria tacos and I got the quesadilla. The tacos are pretty normal size, but apparently their tortillas are huge, because I ended up taking part of my quesadilla home and made another 1½ meals out of it. Unfortunately found a bone in middle of one of the wedges, but otherwise still great. Strange that they 'don't have water', so no beverages for us. Service was ok. The people were nice and I got my order quickly, but friend didn't get hers for another 10-15 min. Atmosphere is a clean, well organized little market with restaurant service and a couple of tables if you want to dine in. The meat section is good with quite a few options and very fairly priced. Most dry goods were just ridiculously expensive for what they were though. Worth it for specialty items. (Mexican Coca Cola... yes, please!) not so much for things that you can get for ¼-½ that amount nearby at Safeway or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBEWARE. This was my first time giving my business to sonoras, the service was super awful from the begging. They forgot items on 1 order. Then I went home to eat my food when I found a GIANT bone in my taco and ALMOST broke my tooth. I called to tell them and the co worker hung up on me 2 times. After I told them about the bone and wanting a refund. Then the next day i reach out to the owner or manager Iām not sure what one, because her attitude didnāt reflect any of those positions. She gave me the run around for a refund. And kept telling me I could call there insurance so clearly this isnāt the first time this was done. The food is gross the service is awful and if you care about your teeth DO NOT EAT HERE. Cause when any issues happen they do not handle it professionally or with care. They act like it was your fault. Do better cause this was a scary situation. I will never go back and Iāll forever spread the word about...
