Getting pick up dinner last night left a sour taste in my mouth and not from a sweet and sour dish. I got online and looked on the menu and called in an order for my wife and myself. The menu states that with each entree we are to receive soup and rice. When I arrive to pick up our food I see no soup. I ask about the missing soup and the cashier tells me there is no soup for pick up orders, just for dine in orders. I ask for the rationale and she says there is no rationale. I ask if I pay less since there is no soup as the menu states, she says no change in price. I should have refused my order and gone elsewhere for that reason alone, but I took my order since my wife was expecting me to return with Chinese. I wish I hadn't. My order of Tian Jin Shrimp had so much batter I could hardly taste the shrimp. The sauce was very tasty. My egg roll was crisp and tasty. I ended up with a good egg roll and batter with a good sauce. I bet if I would have offered to pay extra for the soup I could have had it, but why should I? It was supposed to be included with the meal and since you pay the same price as the dine in customers why the difference? They can't or won't tell you. I'll spend my money elsewhere next time I go...
Read moreThis had been one of my favorite restaurants and a place I frequented for the last 20+ years. I've gone several times since what appears to be the restaurant getting new ownership and / or management. Sadly, the experience just keeps getting worse every visit, and I'm done giving it more chances. The Teriyaki Beef, previously the house special, has gone from crispy, savory, and filling beef steak cuts to a limp, bland, soupy mess best described as the worst Mongolian Beef you've ever had. The once spicy, shapely, saucy, plate filling Sesame Chicken is now just a small sauce-less pile of barely breaded chunks. It looks and tastes like the bland General Tso's you would get in a cold case at a supermarket. Even the egg drop soup is a watered down memory of what it used to be. Other menu items are at best mediocre. The new team has clearly put some effort into a few areas of the restaurant that needed some love. Takeaway service / packaging, and at least pre-'Rona dine in service have significantly improved. Unfortunately, the food is not even a shadow of what it used to be. I get that in these trying times, menus must be consolidated, portions reduced and / or prices raised, but the food still...
Read moreI am so sad right now. We have been going to Tian Jin forever. Was concerned when they got new owners a few years back, but couldn't believe they had gotten better. Had their food, picked up of course, about 8 mths ago, was still good, but somethings had changed, besides their price for Family Dinner. Well, sadly to say they totally have gone downhill. The Fried Tempura Shrimp's coating was just a thick flour glob. The Shrimp with Vegetables was mostly cabbage. The Shrimp were cooked great, and the flavor was good, but it wasn't Shrimp and Vegetables. Their Short Ribs Sauce is so bad. Unfortunately, they use this same gross sauce for their Beef & Chicken Skewers, which made them inedible, besides the Beef tasted as if rotten. The Hot and Sour Soup and Egg Drop Soup were still good. As was their Brown Rice. Then they have raised their price on the Family Meal to $21.99 per person. Needless to say this will be the last time we will eat from them, unless they change...
