Leila Jo's Cafe & Bakery — Restaurant in Punxsutawney

Other than the high prices, bad parking, and they try to act like they are extremely busy or something (most places you order food and it's ready in 20 mins, this place you order and they act like they have 50 other orders ahead of yours- not really sure how to explain it) Food is usually good. I used to go here a lot for their sweet sauce pizza and loved it. Over time though the taste seemed to change and was not quite as good, however it was still yummy.

I recently had one of their pizza strombolis and it was pretty good, however the amount of dough (too much) compared to the ingredients for the price (fairly expensive for what it is) was not fair to me. So, this time around I decided I would get extra cheese on half of the stromboli to compare to regular cheese to see if this (extra cheese on the whole thing) is the way I need to order going forward. I ordered online. The price came up as one thing, the lady (not the owner) called me to confirm the time it would be ready and that I only wanted extra cheese on half of it. She did not say anything about the price over the phone.

I got there to pick up my order and I was told by the same lady I spoke to on the phone that the price would actually be $2 more than it was when I ordered because extra cheese cost more and the website does not charge for extra cheese. I told her that I do not think this is right, it's not my fault the site did not charge me for extra cheese. If I knew extra cheese was another $2 I would not have gotten extra cheese when the thing is already $17 without E.C. So, she went to the back to get the owner and the owner came walking out with my stromboli in hand to 'fix' the price back to what I was suppose to pay. Meanwhile she was carrying the stromboli and proceeded to drop it on the floor. She claims that none of it came out of the box, but I have no idea as they have large/tall display cases that you can not see over. She then acted as though nothing happened and told the other lady to go ahead and let me pay the price I was told. No apology for the false advertising or anything. After the $ issue and then dropping the thing on the floor I changed my mind and walked out empty handed.

The owner followed me outside and said that she promises nothing came out of the box, but she would 'make me a new one'. I was on my lunch break and do not have another hour to sit around waiting for another stromboli, which for all I know could just be the same one that was dropped on the floor but reheated. Also she claimed that it was not her fault that the price was wrong online (uhh..yes it is- it's definitely not mine). She claimed that it's some guy's fault and she has told him multiple times that the price is incorrect and he still has not fixed it. Well, that's between you and whoever this guy is, not the customer who is told one price and then the price goes up when they get there.

So, $20 for some dough/cheese/pepperoni and to support somebody that would be okay with selling you food that they dropped on the floor after trying to surprise you with a higher price for the item than you were told originally when you ordered. Two stars only because pizza I had in the past was yummy for the most part. I just hope that none of it had fallen on the floor...

Leila Jo’s catered my bridal shower over Memorial Day weekend and the food and service were both outstanding. My mom, who hosted the event, appreciated their communication and flexibility as they worked with her to develop a menu for the party. There was an impressive variety of food and everything was delicious and made with high quality ingredients. My sister-in-law has been raving endlessly that Leila Jo’s made the very best chicken salad that she has ever had. Jackie definitely knows what she's doing in the kitchen! Back in 2014 she was my Culinary Instructor at IUP. When I found out she had a restaurant so close to home, it's been my family and I's favorite dining spots. We're always there, mainly because my kids absolutely love her! The food, atmosphere, and customer service is some of the best in the area. Any time I have family or friends in town visiting. Leila Jo's is ALWAYS on my list to take them! We're so grateful for her and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND...
