We had a very unpleasant time here. It seems like the other people may not have had a pleasant time either as there is another review that was submitted the same day we went. The staff (already short staffed) seemed to be getting ready for an event. We had to sit outside because the entire area inside was going to be used and they wanted to set up. A few people were eating inside but no one was allowed to. The area outside was no prepped for people to sit. They barely had a few booths that had been wiped down. We were looking at the menu and ordered at least water and perhaps an appetizer from a young lady. Not even 5 min later a man came over (maybe chef) and asked if we were ready to order but he was in a haste and walked off when we said we needed more time. She came back and we ordered food. The appetizer was basically thrown on the table by person who brought us the food. He was half walking away while dropping off the appetizer. The rest food was delivered and we asked for a side of marinara. It was never brought over. We would have left sooner but it started pouring. The lady brought us the check when we asked for boxes. We noticed that they charged us for the marinara sauce. We couldn’t get the lady so we spoke to a manager. He seemed a bit bothered by the fact that we pointed it out but he said he would make it right. We asked if there was Apple Pay and he said yes but that we had to go to the front. We went to the front and a very rude lady said that it couldn’t be used because they get charged for using Apple Pay. She wanted cash. At the end she took Apple Pay. We asked for a bag for our boxes and she said they were .50 cents each so we said fine. Overall very unpleasant and the food was ok-ish. The pasta was overly salty. The mozzarella sticks ok and the calzone was ok just too much ricotta cheese. I would avoid this place if you plan to pay with anything other than cash and if you see they are setting up for something because they cannot multi-task. There was only one other person in the back and even then it was too much for them which made atmosphere and attitudes...
Read moreThere aren't many choices for Italian food in Purcellville. So a drive through Northern Virginia's wine country yielded very little for the Italian taste buds. On the outside, the building looks very quaint. I found the disabled parking not wide enough if you have a van.
Once inside, we were seated promptly. I gathered from the clientele that it was frequented by a few regulars as they seemed pretty comfortable and familiar with the place.
We ordered the insalata caprese and fried zucchini for appetizers. The tomatoes were hard suggesting that they weren't top shelf. You want to use succulent tomatoes in this dish. Additionally, the mozzarella wasn't truly fresh mozzarella, nor was it shaped to compliment the tomatoes. The basil was chopped. The balsamic and olive oil was alright. The fried zucchini was a little better, but the marinara source had large chunks of tomato in it.
My wife ordered the creamy Tuscan salmon. Normally if she enjoys a dish, I can hear her relishing it with sounds like "mmmm". She thought the olives were a bit bitter. That's about all I got out of her. For my Maryland blue crab stuffed ravioli, I found them undercooked. A little too dente. The Alfredo sauce was runny foe my taste. I also felt the raviolis didn't have enough crab flavor. A bit lacking. The garlic bread I was served on the side appeared to be just the tip of the loaf and wasn't appealing or tasty whatsoever.
The whole experienced reminded me why I hardly eat at Italian restaurants. Being half-Sicilian, I grew up eating Italian food at home. I know good stuff when I taste it. I feel the good was hastily prepared, the service lacked friendliness that I enjoy in a "family" restaurant. On the plus side it was was prompt and courteous.
It's not a "stay away from" place, but it's definitely not a make it a destination place either. We didn't bother taking photos because we just weren't...
Read moreLove Anthony's food, taste and quality. Packed with people in a Friday night, brief wait for seating, noisy. The wait for food is consistent, last night was 1/2 hour from ordering, the service was fractured last night-multiple servers brought food and checked on us-lack of communication and urgency to return. A manager took my glass for refill, did not take my companion's empty glass. He did not return, I told waitress-she did not return. Some 20 minutes later another sever delivered one drink with no straw. I stopped the waitress, she returned with a straw after a bit. 10 minutes after that, the bar tender delivered two drinks. I had spaghetti with meatballs, the meatballs were pain, no additional sauce was put over them, I received two pieces of garlic toast, my companion received one. I would like fresh grated cheese, they only have pizza shakers. Salad was crisp and fresh. I will return because the food tastes freshly prepared and I enjoy the spice in the marinara sauce. The food made up for the atmosphere and service. $61 for 2 non alcoholic drinks, 2 dinner entrees and...
