Marika's Place — Restaurant in Putnam

My husband, baby, and I went here today since our normal breakfast place isn't open Mondays. The waitresses were friendly and the prices were fairly average, our bill was a few dollars more than it is at our normal place. However, for the few dollars more the portions were much smaller. My husband ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel and the bagel was completely flavorless, the eggs had no seasoning, and the bagel to egg and bacon ratio, wasn't great it was a thin sandwich. He said it reminded him of the cheap sandwiches he used to get in high school. My omelet didn't have very much cheese and to top it off I ordered it with 3 things in it but only received two of those fillings. When I pointed that out to my waitress, she was very apologetic and told me the cook had just messed something else up and she doesn't know what is going on. She offered to get me another or something else, but I refused since I didn't feel like waiting again. She told me she wouldn't charge me as she apologized some more. Then the bill came. She showed me she did in fact write in all three fillings, just so I could see it wasn't her who messed up. However, she DID charge me for my omelet...she simply only charged me for the fillings it actually had in it. I was nice enough to not make a big deal that what I ordered I did not receive, but they seriously charged me for incorrectly made food. If I had taken a corrected meal that would be one thing...but I didn't. I instead had to pay for food that wasn't what I wanted. I had such high hopes after all the good reviews but was terribly disappointed. I definitely won't be going back after that experience, nor would I recommend...

The food here is good and typically so is the service. However, there is one waitress working at this restaurant who is...well...unfriendly and the service she renders is terrible...If this waitress does not like you, she makes it VERY obvious by her mannerisms and by the fact she fails to check up on you and or offer you free refills on any of your beverages. It's truly poor customer service when you see this said waitress conversing with other customers; being loud and obnoxious with them and offering to fill up their beverages, while you are waiting for a complimentary refill of which you should NOT have to ask her for.

With the above being said, I give this place 2-3 stars...When you don't receive exceptional service with your food, no matter how great the food may be, it truly reflects poorly on the restaurant itself! Although, I have been there quite a few times in the past (and today 12/16/17), after an awful experience like this, I am not sure I want...

This place is the ABSOLUTE BEST place to eat in this entire county! I've been all around in this area, and the food is mediocre in this area at best. Breakfast seems to be huge in this area and the places are always packed regardless of the quality of food, but in our search haven't been satisfied with the quality or price of breakfast in SE Connecticut, until our trip to Marika's. The food was hot fresh and most importantly, super tasty and perfectly cooked. If you have any type of craving for breakfast this is the only place in the area worth going to I promise you, and if you follow my reviews you know I'm very honest, and as a cook can be pretty tough on the food at times because i expect a certain level of quality, so trust me when I say this place is my new go to for breakfast when I'm in the area, and who knows maybe I'll find myself in the area just for a hungry man special every now...
