Read moreWhen in the SE Valley drive by all the other "bbq" places until you reach Woodbarn. The food is so fresh and flavorful. I love that the path to the door takes you by the smoker. Take a whiff and let your imagination guide you inside. My husband and I recently visited Woodbarn. We felt welcomed the moment we walked into this cute and unassuming spot. The young man who took our order was incredibly polite and attentive. Both of us ordered sandwiches - mine being the brisket and my husband's the pork (which he made "Carolina style" which means it had Coleslaw and Carolina sauce). Our side was the awesome Mac and Cheese. One thing you need to know...this is no soupy Kraft variety Mac and Cheese. This is a sturdy, cheesy dish that could be a meal on its own. So good!! I'm glad we were asked if we wanted any cornbread because I would've hated missing that. Cornbread should have corn in it and theirs does. It's so moist and popping with flavor. Back to my sandwich. The brisket has been smoked to absolute perfection. It was so tender that it just melted into every bite. My husband liked the pork but commented that next time we will both get a 1/2 lb. of meat each, a side and then split it, doing away with the bun. If you want a sandwich, get a sandwich. But, the meat alone... As a nice ending to our meal, my husband got a serving of bread pudding, which I don't care for. He made me try it and I'm so grateful he did! This isn't "normal" bread pudding. It's a bit of warm, sweet deliciousness that I wasn't expecting to like. I know better for our next visit. I wish I didn't live over an hour away because Woodbarn would become my second home. When nearby this is...
Read moreWhat a disappointing experience. Over the past few weeks I've driven past this restaurant on my way home from work and was looking forward to trying out some quality "Q". Based on the past reviews, it's clear to me now that these, most likely, were reviews uploaded by friends or family of the place. I consider myself a BBQ enthusiast and enjoy seeking out others who have the same passion for great BBQ. This place definitely doesn't know what they are doing when it comes to BBQ. Never in all my years have I seen BBQ presented with a grey tint. This was my experience with the sausage. The brisket was bland and on the dry side so I decided to drizzle a little of their house bbq sauce on it. I instantly knew that was a mistake because the overly sweet bbq sauce definitely overpowered what little flavor the brisket had to offer. My son ordered the pork sandwich. The only thing I have to say about the sandwich is there wasn't one ounce of pride or bbq love given to it. We sat there in disbelief, because the overall appearance of the restaurant and the joyful aroma outside was magnificent. The staff greeted us with smiles and we're the most pleasant thing I can say about this place. When we left we decided to seek out the source of the lingering aroma. We drove around the back of the place and they actually have a very nice custom rig for smoking. Unfortunately the Pitmaster is clueless on how to use it because the meats available had little to no smokey goodness and tasted as it was boiled or steamed. Nothing about the BBQ Restaurant is BBQ. If you like counterfeit "Q" this place is for you. True BBQ...
