Here’s my review of Garden Patch By The Sea…my new favorite place 💚
My husband and I were so so excited to finally try this place after seeing so many great reviews and of course we always love supporting plant based restaurants! I had to try the lobster roll which was delicious and I loved the Cole slaw it tasted very traditional as did the tarter sauce too that I had with the crab cakes.
Craig, the owner, knowing we drove so far to come down surprised us and let us sample their crab cakes and clam strips which were both amazing! The crab cakes were very flavorful and dipped in the tarter sauce were perfection. I really liked the clam strips and the texture of them, crispy and not as chewy as real clam strips (have not had clams in forever and they really gross me out now I could never eat them again) my husband even tried both of these and hadn’t ever really eaten seafood but because they were vegan he was more interested in giving it a go.
The wings!!!!! Okay now you have to get these if you come here seriously we were so impressed!! They were chewy and smoky, the “bone” part is edible it’s made of sugarcane we’ve never had anything like it. They do not skimp on sauces either!!! We tried teriyaki and sweet chili sauces.
Chickn Parm sub and sweet potato fries both cooked perfectly and crispy. Very impressed I think non-vegans would love this chickn Parm sub, I would suggest it to everyone!
Their patio is amazing, chairs are super comfortable, it’s a great size patio with umbrellas at the tables, flowers all around. And it’s very relaxing despite the cars driving by. Water is right across the street and view of the Boston skyline! They have lights at night over the patio. Planes flying overhead in the distance.
The owner Craig could not be any nicer!! We really enjoyed talking to him. He made our visit special and we so appreciate all the hard work he’s put into this business. We also appreciate his business being open today! They just started opening on Mondays. It can’t be easy running an entirely plant based restaurant but he’s so passionate and I would love everyone to support him and his mission!!!
They are having an event this Saturday night! Live music it’d be a great time to go and try the food!
Next time we visit (soon again I hope!) we’re bringing our baby and dog and I’m getting the clam strip basket, wings, and hopefully they’ll have their vegan soft serve ice cream by then!!! Can’t wait!
Thanks Craig for a great...

I walked into the restaurant with my two toddlers and my eight months pregnant self, knowing nothing about the menu. We used to go here when it was Café Maddie, so I thought we would come in for a similar enjoyable experience. I asked what it meant by the comment on the menu saying “plant-based” - and he shrugged off a rudely toned comment, saying the whole menu was plant-based. Cool, didn’t know that’s what was meant by all the meat-sounding options. I actually eat plant-based so I was excited that this could be an option for me to come to in Quincy. I had other questions about the menu, and each time I was met with a gruff, rude response – not befitting of someone trying to welcome a newcomer into your restaurant. I noticed that the menu is a lot of meat alternatives – not necessarily a menu that excites someone who eats plant-based looking for nutrient dense/whole foods. And the options were also incredibly expensive. My children’s macaroni and cheese was over $16 – a tinfoil dish of macaroni noodles covered with melted cheese. After we ordered, I took my two children to the bathroom to wash hands before lunch. There was no soap and no paper towels. So we asked the guy at the counter for some soap. Trying to be helpful, I told him that I hadn’t looked in the second bathroom to see if there might be soap in there – without even turning back to look at me, he said, gruffly -“It’s closed.” He took the soap bottle from the bathroom, filled it a quarter of the way full with some urine-colored, Pine-Sol smelling fluid, and returned it to the bathroom. Not washing my kids hands with that, sorry. And you seriously have no soap that you couldn’t even fill the bottle full??
I was done by now. We were planning on staying, but this guy was obviously in a horrible, rude, unhelpful mood, and doing damage to the business. I rarely leave restaurants, but I couldn’t wait to get out of here and never come back.
The building is hot, dirty, and cluttered inside - couldn’t imagine trying to eat in there in the summer.
Too bad. It’s a beautiful location next to the ocean. I hope someday someone runs a decent...
Read moreHello Cafe Maddie (the info@cafemaddie email is bouncing back) . We love your restaurant for it's super yummy food and desserts. It is unique in the array of items served and high quality food.
We know the service can wane a bit with help these days, so that is understandable. But we hope that your quality will not wane. Please keep up the standards of your food because that is a major point that sets you apart. Food quality and staff demeanor and professionalism go a very long way.
Recently we did a quick drop by for a custard and were told only chocoate. However, we wished that they told us nothing soft serve was available.
We gave our order with a blonde haired lady whom we've seen many times in the past.
She seemed to forget about our order with behind the counter confusion. We waited patiently. There were 3 other staff members who argued about some hard ice cream flavor. You had plenty of staff for Labor Day lunchtime but seemingly little order or organization behind the counter.
Our order taker then started getting some order together for the outside and ran that. She walked back to the counter and started doing other things. Then she noticed us standing in the lobby and said what are you guys waiting on and then she remembered.
However, what she handed us was far from what we paid for. In fact, I was quite shocked. I said this is my cone? And she said yes, it is kind of soft. I really cannot believe she thought it was appropriate to hand us these items. This is a problem, from my perspective. Please see attached photos of I am permitted to add them.
We would have ordered something else if we knew our item would be so far from what is pictured on the menu. Or tell us the situation at least, let us decide. Better yet, don't serve product that either isn't ready/set up yet or from a machine that is broken.
I write this email because I want to see this business succeed and thrive. From my humble opinion on the outside as a customer, there are some issues that mature management need to address in setting quality standards and maintaining professional service and behavior behind...
