Heard so many great things about this place we finally took the plunge and went to check it out. Upon walking in you could see they were busy. There were only 2 tables available and they were both dirty, so we sat at one. The gal behind the bar came to clean it off for us after a couple of minutes and took our drink order. She brought our drinks back and I had asked for a lemon in mine and was given a lime, also my tonic was flat, so I patiently waited while I was trying to figure out what I wanted to eat. 10 minutes later the waitress finally came by for our order. I asked her to get something else and she offered to open a new bottle for me, I also, again, asked for a lemon. You could see she was very distracted by something as she wouldn't make eye contact. She brought a fresh drink to me with a LIME! I waited another 10 minutes for her to come back by, as she was apparently busy chit chatting with the folks at the gaming machines. Finally I got my lemon! My husband ordered gizzards and lattice fries and I ordered a reuben. When our food came out they had given my husband regular fries, which whatever, but my reuben left A LOT to be desired. It looked like a lunch meat sandwich. Bread barely toasted, not even sure it was rye as it was very light colored, no thousand island and maybe a teaspoon of sauerkraut and a tablespoon of meat. To say I was disappointed is an understatement! After leaving my husband also mentioned that his draft beer was lukewarm at best! I loved the atmosphere of the place, just wish we would have had a...
Read moreMy wife and I were passing through Quincy and this restaurant caught my eye because (a) it was located on a corner in a neighborhood, similar to many restaurants we frequented when first married and (b) the reviews mentioned best fried chicken in the area. We each had two draft beers, delivered in ice cold glass mugs. I really enjoyed the ice cold mug--I can't remember the last time I had a beer at a bar in a frosty mug. My wife had the ham and queso pony shoe and I had the fried chicken dinner. Both were excellent and prior reviews proved out about the chicken--some of the best I have ever had. And then another pleasant surprise when the check was delivered--2 meals, an extra side and 4 beers for about $30. We noticed everyone there was having a great time and why wouldn't they--great food and drinks at reasonable prices in a restaurant located in the corner of a neighborhood. ...
Read more8-4-25 In town for family emergency. Of course Mr Bills was a must do. This time it was the tenderloin we've heard so much about and they talk about on the site "you know you grew up in Quincy Illinois if...." on Facebook. It was fantastic and just as great as the 18-wheeler used to be. Waitress was super super nice. She had this cool makeup around the eyebrows and the eyes that I thought was tattoos but she said it was just the way she does her makeup. She was so nice. It was an enjoyable lunch. Now I got to go back and see if the fried chickens as good as it was 30 years ago when it was Zim's.
