Went here once last year since it seems to be the only sushi place in town - I did not have a good experience food or customer service wise. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because their service (the second time I went) was better than the first (it still wasn't great though).
My first visit: I called in an order, went to pick it up on time and the cashier gave me the wrong order without checking what I ordered. Got all the way to my car before I realized that it was wrong and had to go back. She was snippy about it and rude when I came back, asking why I didn't say what I ordered? Then she charged me EXTRA for getting it wrong. The food did not taste good and I was not pleased to see the raw fish in my roll chopped up into little bits... (this is NOT normal for a place with Sushi in the title).
My second visit: I went here again last weekend to make sure I didn't just have one bad experience. The service was better but the food was the same. When the raw sushi you order comes chopped into bits, you need to question the integrity of the restaurant. Why cut up perfectly decent "sushi grade" fish if you don't have anything to hide? Nagoya is most likely adding something to the fish to make it stretch further for the price. In this case (+the fact that it doesn't taste very fresh/good and they roll their "premium rolls" small), the sushi is WAYYY over priced for what you get. Don't let the combo fool you, the miso soup is poorly made and the California roll is more underwhelming than normal. That combo is not worth the $20 you pay. The sushi does not taste fresh, and anyone who goes to a better rated one in a more urban area will know this.
Other reviews: The management responses are nice but I've been here twice in two years and noticed some of the things the other bad reviews say and they have not changed a bit.
Other options: I encourage anyone to leave radford for sushi (if this is the only place they've had it) to try something better. I recommend Greens Grille or Saki House for some really decent sushi. I promise the 25 minute drive...
Read moreFor managing to make sushi still seem fresh in the mountains, it's not bad and their prices are pretty reasonable ... not to mention all time specials like buy 2 rolls and get a California roll for free. They seemed to be missing a bit of the basics like plain tekka maki (tuna) or salmon rolls, perhaps because it's harder to get fish filets in versus the easier made and stored spicy tuna/salmon. However, they did have some really interesting speciality roll combinations that I've never heard of, like ones with pineapple (wasn't too bad but overly sweet). Staff was pretty nice, but could be slightly inattentive at times. If I were in radford, I'd go back, but basing ratings on other sushi joints found...

This is that wonderful kind of oriental restaurant. We ordered 4 chicken dishes: Chop Suey, Hunan, Kung Po, and Sweet and Sour. Each was great. Uniquely flavored, each with its own unique sauce. As I told the server, had I been at home I'd have had to lick the plates the food was so good. Each was their small size, and yet we had enough to take home for lunch the next day. We'll definitely be back. Next time we'll order no more than 3 dishes so we can finish them that meal. The food really is at its very best...
