One of our family's favorites! Not only is the food wonderful, the staff is phenomenal! The entire family can go and find something we all enjoy on the menu. Sal's has always been one of our favorites but tonight really topped it off for us. My mom and I went to meet my brother and his family for dinner. We came out of the restaurant to find our tire was flat. My brother, mom, and I get to work on getting the neseccary tools to change the tire. Unfortunately we couldn't get the lugs to break. We all tried (except for the infant) after struggling for a while I went back to into the restaurant to ask if anyone knew of a local service that would come out on a Saturday night. The gentleman that I spoke with said he would go and ask in the back if anyone knew. He comes back a moment later and said "Joe said he would come out and help you." Let me tell you Joe knows how to help out a person in their time of need. Between Joe, my brother, some WD-40, and a 2x4 we were able to get the tire off, the donut on and be on our way home. We cannot thank Joe enough for all his help. He truly knows how to take care of his customers! Oh did I mention the rain? Of course as soon as we started making some progress with the stuck tire it came a...
Read moreSal's in Radford is the original and the best. An institution in the New River Valley, Sal's has always been great and has expanded their menu over the years to include a huge variety of authentic and delicious Italian fare. You really can't go wrong with their menu. No matter what kind of Italian food you like, they have you covered. They also have several different price points available so no matter your budget, you will find something to love. (Stop by for lunch to enjoy special selections from 11am-3pm) My family's favorites are the various types of pasta and sauces, the "Special Steak" sandwich, the eggplant parmesan, the calzones and of course - the pizza. All amazing. Pro tip: Order off the appetizer menu for a different selection of awesome food. You can make a meal of the appetizers. The garlic knots are ridiculously good as is the fried calamari. Finally, the owners and staff are the nicest you will ever run across. Fantastic people making fantastic food. Locally owned and operated for as long as I can remember, Sal's is a treasure. If you live in the NRV you have probably eaten here already, but if not, you need to check them out. You...
Read moreI have been to Sal's a number of times over the years mainly because of lack of selection in the Radford area. Each time I go I hope that my experience will be an exception. Everything on their menu is covered in grease or oil, so much so that to make it edible I try to tilt the plate and dab some out with my napkin.
The service and cleanliness of staff is poor at best. It is a pretty decent chance that once you are seated your server will forget you are there and it may be some time before they come back. I have in the past waited so long that I felt the need to find someone willing to take my order. The management seems to really not care what kind of experience you have and this translates down to their staff.
I understand that there are many reviews out there where people rave about the food, I can only assume that they have not been to a lot of decent Italian restaurants or friends of the owners. If you are looking for a place that you can go wait 30+ minutes for below average food at gourmet prices this is likely the place for you. I would suggest skipping this place and trying some of the other locally owned...
