We recently moved from Cleveland to the greater Philly area and wanted to try one of our favorite restaurants from home. In Cleveland, the app works magnificently by estimating your wait time spectacularly well and effectively managing the parties waiting in the welcome area; in Villanova, it's useless. We waited over an hour based on a 21-32 min wait time from the app that was seemingly forgotten or improperly used. The hosts then lied to our faces when we asked what our party placement was after 35 mins of waiting and a desire to scram to enjoy our Sunday and salvage our morning. We continued to wait when were told it'd be 5 parties until we we're seated... It turned out to be easily 8-12 parties until we got seated.
We then find out that there's "community seating" right before we finally got seated, this would have been helpful for a newly settled party of 2 versus the parties of 6 floating in and out of there. There's no signage about the seating so heads up that it's the long wooden table in the front, apparently. When we finally sat, we were ready to order... We waited a solid 5 minutes for anyone to come by for coffee or water and we were seated right next to the kitchen. We looked around to see what was going on and started conversation with a frustrated party of 5 next to us. They indicated they'd been waiting on food for over a half an hour and were then told that "the kitchen was backed up" and it was unclear when exactly their meals would be ready. We waited another 8 minutes before we abruptly left out of complete bewilderment and irritability at the mismanagement of this First Watch and inattentiveness to our table. We won't ever be going back and will say goodbye to one of our favorites from Cleveland. This place needs...
Read moreFirst time eating Brunch in this restaurant yesterday. Not too busy. Assigned a table for two. Floor directly under my seat was wet from spilled coffee so I asked a server to wipe it which she did half heartedly and not thoroughly. Took longer for her to attend to us despite the not so busy time. Luckily another very pleasant server was kind enough to step in and promptly served us with a beautiful smile and attitude. Food was great! Original server didn’t bother to check back in with us if we needed anything else like, um, water? Came time to pay bill in front and the amount was just about right. Paid the 20 percent tip somewhat reluctantly (I think that was the minimum if I recall) and was told by the somewhat frosty and disengaged front person that the card came through only for the tip(??). Had to swipe card for second time making sure to ask lady I don’t have to tip again. Made me feel it was my fault, no apologies or anything. I would give this place 5 stars except for the front desk reception(not as welcoming as other places) and our first inattentive server. The other server who helped out was great. Food more than made up for this so, 4 stars. I would eat here again but maybe try a...
Read moreAfter reading several of the great reviews of this First Watch, we decided to give it a go. Where to start....the server took 15 minutes to come say hello, the silverware was dirty, and there was still water in the coffee cups. At one point, we looked around and noticed (yes we counted) 14 tables with no food and everyone looking for the servers. Once we got our food, the waffle was cold, million dollar bacon was about "three fitty," the eggs with the waffle were cold and not completely cooked. We normally don't send food back and when asked for another order of 2 over easy eggs, cold as could be as well but at least cooked through. The potatoes on the eggs Benedict plate was sadly the only warm portion in our combined meal. The tables on each side of us also complained of cold and uncooked meals to their server.
The one shining star of our experience was a bus boy with braids who saw how busy it was and continuously was trying to keep up with the turnover to increase throughput of customers. He would tactfully tell others to help clear tables rather than stare at them from the host area. Well...
