From Alabama to North Carolina; I saw their video with Safiya and immediately went online where they were sold out, I called to see if they had any in store since I would be (kinda) close by to drive over. The lady who answered was so incredibly sweet and helpful and sent me an invoice to go ahead and pay so I could guarantee some chocolate. I cannot remember her name but it was the nicest phonecall I've had with a business ever. I've gone a lot of miles for food and can confidently say the extra hour with traffic from over in Durham was more than worth the drive. I ordered two Safiya lavender vanilla chocolate bars and two of the almond black tea confections for sharing. The bar is delicious and if you like lavender at all you'll love this! I almost wish I had gotten more confections as I could eat an entire box ❤️ I also got their salted caramel confection which was the best caramel bite I've had, another confection that was like taking a bite out of a vanilla bean, and their house mocha size large- so decadent and almost like drinking a molten chocolate bar, could not ask for a better mocha and might come back just for it! I love that they make their own chocolate themselves and if you haven't seen the video with Safiya, they go through the whole process, it's amazing to see the work they put in to everything they make here! Amazing experience all around and definitely will be adding this stop to any...

I recently discovered this chocolate store and can't believe I didn't try their chocolate sooner! It's absolutely delicious!! They distribute in Whole Foods which is great for those who don't want to drive downtown every week just for chocolate. The chocolate is pricer than most other bars you'll find in the grocery store, but the quality is well worth it.

Every time I open one of these bars I feel like Charlie Bucket when I see the golden wrapped chocolate bars. Their confectionaries are also fantastic and would make a great gift for any occasion. I've already sent some chocolate to my friends up in Canada and the process of shipping was handled by Escazu directly and very straightforward. I plan on giving their chocolate as gifts to a variety of family members this Christmas and can't wait to share this chocolate with more and more people!

If you're overwhelmed with the variety of choices of what to try at Escazu, I'd recommend trying either the Sea Salt bar or, my personal favorite, the Goat's Milk bar. The Goat's Milk bar has a tangy finish that sets it apart from almost any other chocolate bar I've tried and keeps brining me back and...

“Tastes like it was dipped straight out of Willy Wonka’s River.”

-Shawn Spencer (Psych, season 3, episode 1)

Escazu Chocolates is a local darling of a place. It’s precisely the type of treasure I’ve spent, and continue to spend my whole life looking for throughout my travels.

The interior is decorated in a sleek contemporary and minimalistic design, with a strong emphasis on natural and/or earthy materials like wood, bamboo, concrete, and thick recyclable paper. The space creates a very open and inviting stage for their curated and expertly crafted products.

From exquisite and immaculate confections served up in elegant high quality boxes, to chocolate bars wrapped in heavy parchment, to rare paw paw push pops fabricated every once in a blue moon, to clever gifts - it would seem they have it all!

They also brew up a dreamy cup of hot chocolate. As one takes each scorching sip of super intense, rich chocolatey decadence, images of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are brought to mind as you are literally experiencing real life’s closest comparison to Wonka’s chocolate...

I've been a long time patron of this shop - first when I was an undergraduate student almost ten years ago at NC State, and again as a post-graduation student at Duke, following a five year break while I was in the Navy. This place has been consistently amazing since day one. I feel it's one of the few places that didn't change in the five years I was gone, allowing me to feel like I was back home again! I love their unique chocolate truffle flavors, their push pop ice creams, their coffee... everything! The shop items are really nice as well, and a good place to get something local as a gift for someone...or even yourself :) My only wish is that they had indoor seating, but the space is unfortunately a bit small to provide that, but as long as the weather holds, it's such a great stop if you live here in Raleigh, or you're just visiting :)

Just visited this shop and found the staff member who took my order to be unpleasant and unknowledgeable. She didn’t seem to know if the cocoa served was drinking chocolate or closer to traditional “American” hot cocoa (cocoa powder + milk+ whipped cream). When I tried to explain the difference, she talked over me and curtly listed their ingredients. Then when I asked if I could taste it, she flatly replied, ‘No’. The spicy cocoa had a great kick of spice, but was a bit too sweet for me. Unfortunately, first impressions matter and they’ve lost a patron.
