The only downside we had for this place was the wait time to get seated due to the massive line. Otherwise, our experience was wonderful! Our waitress was very kind and welcoming; eating here felt more like I'd just stopped by a friends house for a meal with his family rather than going out to a restaurant. The biscuits came out within minutes of being seated; they were fluffy, light, and supremely delicious by themselves as well as with butter and jelly. Just be cautious not to stuff yourself before your entrees come! We ordered the fried chicken, barbecue chicken, and chicken fried steak to share between our group of 6. Between all of us, we could barely finish - to be fair, half the group aren't big eaters. Even still, the portions are pretty large. Each dish comes with two vegetable sides of your choosing, of which we got fried okra, fried green tomatoes, homestyle fries, and the potato salad. I'd recommend the tomatoes. For me personally, the food here was fantastic. The barbecue chicken was recommended to me by our waitress, and it hit the spot. The meat was pull-apart tender, and dissolved when pulled at with a fork; the smoky barbecue sauce paired with it to create a perfect combination of sweet and savory. However, I don’t have much impression of the other dishes, so I can’t speak for them. Overall, if you can find a time where it's not too busy, and can get seated fast, it's definitely worth dropping by. Even if there is a bit of a queue time, with a big group you can get a buzzer and just go look around the actual farmer's market while you wait. 5/27/23

I really wanted to like this place. I really did. I think I was just unlucky and came at the wrong time. I arrived with my friends on a drizzly summer morning, just managing to catch the restaurant just before brunch rush. The waiter was nice and cheery, got us started with the menu. We had prepared to order beforehand, but there were so many delicious things our trio decided to order 3 of the most tasty looking/value-wise and share among eachother. The menu is large, full of American Southern classic breakfast meals, and appropriately priced for a Raleigh restaurant-- basic meals start at $9, and the more extravagant end somewhere between $10-$12. There is a wide selection of Southern favorites such as corn beef hash, chicken n' waffles, and even Eastern NC BBQ-- which is what my group decided on choosing. The chicken n' waffles was fabulous. Instead of a meager fried drumstick, my boyfriend received an entire HALF of a cornish hen DEEP FRIED in the crispiest skin imaginable. The belgian waffle was crispy, airy, and light, and the bananas were lightly sweetened. The corn beef hash had epic proportions, and was served with a generous helping of two eggs (though they were not quite served over medium as asked) and toast. Meanwhile, I eagerly anticipated the Eastern NC BBQ, only to come across many surprises... Firstly, the BBQ was minced/flaked to the side. Not what I was expecting, but if it tastes good, appearances are nothing. There was a nice serving of mac n cheese (very good) and excellent, well-seasoned collard greens. I also got a complimentary side of banana pudding which for $11 is a steal. The BBQ, however, was the largest disappointment of all: they were incredibly vinegary, sour, and borderline too salty to handle. I may be an immigrant, but I've acclimated my tastebuds to the American South since moving here; even my American born and raised friends said it was too sour and salty. We tried hiding it with fruit jelly and maple syrup, hoping the pungency would mix well with the sweetness. No dice. My appetite was quickly waning as I took nibbles of the incredibly sour flakes, my attitude souring as well as my friends enjoyed their delicious meals. The restaurant was incredibly busy at this time (11am-12pm) so it was difficult to hail a waiter to remake it. My lips puckered, I stole bites from my friends' plates, and packaged my bbq for takeaway. At home, I tried to fix my leftovers. I added a nice sweet and thick BBQ sauce to try and balance the flavors. But then, the sheer saltiness and sourness punched me in the face. It was inedible. I shared the leftovers with my boyfriend and friend, to which both disposed of as well. There was a hint of rancidness throughout the entire meat, which I could not get over, and alas, I said goodbye to my Eastern BBQ. All in all, I absolutely recommend this place. The atmosphere is classic, Southern Breakfast diner, the prices are appropriate for Raleigh standards, the portions are huge and you will absolutely be taking home leftovers. I would stray away from the Eastern BBQ though, or at least muster up the courage to have something remade unlike I. We will be visiting again. This time I will not be swayed and order chicken and waffles next time.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the NC Farmer's Market Restaurant, and despite living in Raleigh, it was my first visit. I decided to try their Belgian Waffles with fruit topping, and I must say, it was a delightful choice. First and foremost, I was thoroughly impressed with the wait staff. They were not only attentive but genuinely friendly and accommodating. Their warm hospitality added a special touch to my dining experience. As for the atmosphere, it was exactly what I had hoped for – down-home and relaxing. The rustic charm of the restaurant, combined with the bustling energy of the farmer's market, created a unique ambiance. It felt like a cozy escape from the city, even though I was just a stone's throw away from home. The highlight, of course, was the Belgian Waffles. They were impeccably cooked, fluffy on the inside, and had that perfect crispness on the outside. The fruit topping added a burst of freshness and sweetness that complemented the waffles perfectly. It was a delicious and satisfying meal. Overall, my first visit to the NC Farmer's Market Restaurant was a delightful experience. The exceptional service, welcoming atmosphere, and mouthwatering waffles have made me eager to return for another taste of their Southern hospitality. If you're in Raleigh or visiting the area, this hidden gem is worth a visit.

I finally made it over to the NC State Farmer's Market during 4th of July weekend. I arrived before 10:00 a.m. and had time to peruse all the plants, baked goods and fruits. Nothing really caught my eye, so I decided to head over for breakfast at the restaurant. The line was out the door in the 98 degree southern heat. It moved rather quickly and the hostess team provided wonderful southern hospitality. I must say, I love how coordinated the staff was in their green overalls and tops. You get the true country down- home experience here. This is a great choice to bring those who are visiting or new to the Raleigh area. We were seated near the hostess station and service was excellent. I decided on the famous fried bologna biscuit and added a scrambled egg to it with cheese grits. The biscuits are served very fresh and fluffy. My waitress Anne warned me that the serving size would be huge and the " size of a cat's head " and that it was ! So big I had to take half my biscuit home for lunch. The bologna was also thick and delicious. I enjoyed my iced coffee on this humid day. My neighbor enjoyed a Belgian waffle, sausage with breakfast potatoes. I will return because the service is excellent here. I would love to try dinner.
