After eating here for years as my favorite place, I am disheartened to write this review after the experience my wife and I had tonight.
After waiting a few minutes to be seated, the Chef embarrassingly and kindly asked us to seat ourselves and a server will be right with us. Except they never did. The floor was soaking wet and the only table we could even get to was a mess (the entire restaurant was scattered with chairs and tables). After watching the owner treat a birthday party to free shots, (which is cool) the servers basically followed his lead to attend to that table and ONLY that table. At least 6 people were waiting to be seated during this time and they were completely ignored. Their facial expressions, much like mine, were a mirror image of disrespect and concern about eating here.
So finally we stood up after waiting 10-15 minutes to not even get approached by ANYONE. The owner asked if we were done and enjoyed, to that I responded we hadn't even started yet. he laughed and said oh i'm sorry let me get you a drink (he was pretty smashed looking). I said no thank you and warned the other customers still waiting they might as well come back another time. The owner was more interested in having fun than he was in running his business.
As you can imagine my concern with even eating here again is growing fast. I have eaten here at least 40 times and lately it's just a wreck.
Being around the corner from me was a huge plus for convenience but I no longer feel comfortable eating here after watching half the customers being ignored to even get a seat.
I now say bye to what was one of my favorite places to eat, and will soon welcome a more clean and caring environment.
To the owner: I couldn't believe how bad your staff has gotten lately until I watched you not give a single care about anything other than looking cool and having fun. They follow your lead sir don't...
Read moreThe restaurant looks like an old franchise fast food restaurant, and the decorations in the building are bad. The sushi chef chef greeted us when we came in and they server said we could sit anywhere. I was afraid to touch the menu because they didn't look too clean. They could use a wipe down, however maybe a replacement would be better. The staff seemed helpful in answering questions. Maybe just a flat affect, I am not sure. The country music playing in the overhead speaker was definitely a turn off, I would have preferred any other music even music without lyrics.
Now to the food, the presentation of the food was okay. The Gyoza was not that great. The Dancing shrimp was rich but delicious!! I'd come back for that alone. The rolls were huge and pretty good. The entire menu was extremely reasonable and they have awesome specials. All in all, I'm will to return to try other things and I can honestly say that the quality of the food made up for the poor ambiance and customer service.
Update: I have visited a few times now but only to take out food. On occasion I can hear (what seems like the owner) yelling at his staff in the kitchen while I wait for my food. This makes me want to tip my server even more! However, the owner is very friendly to guests and since he is speaking in a foreign language it’s hard to tell if he is scolding employees or if that’s just his baseline tone. I will continue to visit for the food but will most likely never again eat in the dining room unless I absolutely need to. I’ve given four stars for the take out service and...
Read moreI'm not sure how to feel about this place. On one hand it was good, decent, even delicious on the other hand I really feel a bit scammed.
The food was fun and trendy and the menu was practically a novel. But beyond that it was California rolls with new toppings. I can't complain too much about a same same base on sushi rolls that's kinda to be expected for places like this. Overall decent sushi.
The scammy bit come with 3 things. When I chose this place I checked online. Buy one get one free rolls was all over their menu on their website. I tried to call before coming but the phone rang busy for 10 minutes. Ok I thought, why wouldn't they honor their menu and we headed out. The waitress (friendly but stressed) told us at the door that there were no deals when dining in. Bummer!
We sat down and contemplate leaving but decided to stay. We ordered our first rolls. As a huge fan of eel the unagi lovers roll caught my eye. I asked the waitress what made it special, and she confirmed what the menu said, a whole feel ontop! Fun and exciting! So we ordered this 17 dollars roll. Super excited and utterly disappointed when it came out. It looked like 5 small pieces of eel on a saggy California roll. It was good but compared to a standard dragon roll at any other sushi joint... well honestly it was sad.
But the final straw was the bill. 2 of the rolls rang up for more than stated on the menu. Strike 3, I don't think we will be back. False advertising and price tampering aside, it just wasn't that good. Not for 15 dollars or...
