It must be one of those real unlucky days to eat at this restaurant. We dined in, turned in our order, waited in our seats for about 20mins. Waiter apologized to us that they lost our order… ok, so we marked our order on their order sheet again. Waiter gave us free drinks as an apology, ok, appreciated. Cold dish was delivered, gradually 2 other items were on the table, but nearly 20 more minutes passed and all other 4 tables who arrived much later than us all got their steamed and pan fried dumplings. We had to call the waitress over to ask if they could at least give us soup first because soup is usually premade. Another 10-15mins passed and we became really irritated because our steamed and pan fried dumplings were still missing. We told the waitress, she checked and came back to apologize that they FORGOT to put our dumpling orders in. That was already at least an hour wasted waiting at this restaurant and we were just mad and disappointed. Waitress said she would not charge us anything for the miserable experience. We told the waitress to just make the pan fried dumplings and forget about steamed ones. While waiting again for the pan fried dumplings we calculated the food we ordered still wanting to pay for the food, but guess what, we finally got the pan fried dumplings but they were RAW on the center. My husband already swallowed two while I discovered the pork in my dumpling was half raw. That was when I put down my chopsticks and told the waitress we really had enough and they should really do something to improve their service and food quality. The waitress apologized saying that one of the staff quitted the job in the morning…. hey, you still had two people working on the front! Main thing was, we turned in our order twice and it’s still not right, we waited so long and none of the two staff was caring enough to at least come over to ask or check. It was really obvious that we sat there much longer than all other tables with very little food on our table and we kept staring at the kitchen and the staff. The staff was under training we must say. Other than the service, what’s up with the raw pork in the dumpling? Come on… we put down $5 (we only had $1, $5, and $20 cash we usually pay with cards with generous tips but this time we did NOT even feel like giving $20!) showing that we did not want to eat free and we felt bad for the waitress who did not know how to better handle the situation.
To be honest, for the competition among food industry in LA area, this restaurant is just average. We tried to pick out one thing good about their food, maybe the pan fried dumplings, but sorry, the pork was half raw. We felt bad for the owner and sorry for the waitress who seemed helpless, but the good ratings about their food and service? Don’t agree. I hardly give low rating or feel terrible, but last night was just miserable. It was the first time we didn’t feel bad at all walking out of a restaurant...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for lunch yesterday during their soft opening phase. Their grand opening is November 1, 2024. They are located next to Rare Tea (not inside Haven City Market). We arrived as soon as they opened at 11:00am and were told to sit at any table. We learned that they're a family owned and operated restaurant and from their logo have been around since 1990.
They have an open kitchen and you can watch them prepare your food and make the dumplings from scratch. The interior is modern and clean. There is only indoor seating, no outdoor.
The dishes that we ordered and recommend so far are: Classic Pork Soup Dumplings, Jade Shrimp Soup Dumplings, Black Truffle Soup Dumplings, House Special Fried Rice, Cold Watercress Salad, and the Braised Beef Noodles.
All the dumplings we tried were so flavorful on their own, it didn't even need the vinegar. Their beef noodles are clean tasting and would be perfect when the weather cools down. My husband and I really enjoyed our meal and will be bringing my mom...
Read moreThe Baseline: For Asian dumplings, the food flavors need to be authentic, the portions have to be properly sized, and the restaurant must be comfortable and stylish.
Food: The dumplings were incredible. Using other popular soup dumpling restaurants as a comparison, Dumpling Artisan gave me soup flavor I found new and refreshing. The meat portion was bigger in the dumpling and the soup wasn’t as sweet as other chain restaurants (which means less sugar added). The scallion pancake was hot, crispy with a tender center just how I enjoy it. I wish I had this place closer to where I live so I can eat here more.
Service: The staff is friendly and helpful. They were fast and efficient with orders. Cold water carafe left on the table for keeping my water full.
Atmosphere: A casual sit-down restaurant with good seating and space between tables. There was a unkept fish tank. The kitchen is behind glass where you can see the food prepared, which I love. Bathroom was clean. The feel of the...
