To be clear, I am a Raton local and this is a review on Mulligan's Restaurant & Bar. Incase there is any wondering if I meant this review for some other place. It's experiences like this that explain the deteriorating state of Raton. The OVER WHELMING attitude from the staff here is “Don’t Give A... and you can fill in the rest...
Let me put this in a way that people reading this review will relate better to it. Had I been on a first date with a girl that I really wanted to impress, I would have been nice and polite with the staff. After the date was over, I would have gone back to the restaurant and given the manager a verbal experience “their” gender confused little soul would have never forgotten!
The host has ZERO understanding of how positive facial expressions can reflect onto the customers which will in turn improve the business atmosphere.
If you are wanting to show yourself as a modern bar & grill, a cut above the rest (at least in Raton), then you should probably have a higher standard of staff dress code that doesn’t include Converse gym shoes…
Where I sat, I had a direct line of sight to the staff bringing food out of the kitchen. EVERY…SINGLE…TIME a staff member brought food out they stopped and turned around and went back into the kitchen with the food and then would come out again 3-4 minutes later. Order screw-ups is the logical explanation here…
As for our experience, we ordered chips & salsa as a "premeal" appetizer (honestly I shouldn't have to explain what, when and how to serve an appetizer) , cheeseburgers, and water to drink.
-At 15 minutes in, my water was empty. I placed my empty glass out away from myself so that it was obvious it needed attention.
-At 35 minutes in, our chips and salsa came, with salsa spilt down the side of the bowl onto the chips. Seriously how long does it take pour salsa into a bowl and put chips on a plate and then bring them out…? BTW my empty glass is still sitting there...
-At 40 minutes, our cheeseburgers came. A water refill would have been nice at this point...
-At 45 minutes, I got a refill on my water.
-At 45:25, I needed another water refill… I put the glass back out there.
-At 55 minutes, we were both done eating. Again...A water refill would have been nice at this point...
-At 1 hour the server brings some handheld checkout device. I paid the $40+ bill NO TIP, and my wife and I left after “TRYING” to have a nice evening out on our 19th wedding anniversary…
A 2nd refill of water might have earned a dollar or two worth of tip and maybe avoided...

We just recently visted your establishment located in Raton, New Mexico. Our family has been traveling over 2200 miles. We were very upset with the service of the host, server, and management, I am a previous restaurant manger of several restaurants and I know the protocols for a upset Guest. The customer is always right that's how you keep a business working successfully. I have never served a steak dinner for a gentlemen (which was over cooked and sent back) before the childrens or females food hit the table ever period. A guest should never have to ask for a refill if the servers and management team is just standing around. The manger Eddie came up to our table and ask if everything was okay prior to us receiving our food and after I had to wave him down for water refills. Then didn't do anything about any of the problems. As a manger myself I know you should always address the table when there is a refire and mistake not send it out with the server. The server Jessica wasn't inteative...she didn't even stay around to see if our food was correct or ask my husband if his steak was cooked correctly. With the problems you would have thought some sort of compensation would have happened due to the fact we had to wait even longer for their mistakes to be corrected. When the check came the server Jessica asked me if my husband and I were splitting the check down the middle very upsetting obviously we are a family of 5 a father, mother, and our 3 children. It is also very sad that this establishment doesn't recognize Military at all no discount was applied or even a Thank you for your service from the server that had our military ids when given our card to pay. Yall wouldnt be a free state if it wasn't for our troops. Very rude establisment and staff. As a family we couldn't even enjoy it due to the previous problems listed. We spent alot of money for what? A steak that was over cooked, disgusting childrens meal, rude service, and ignorance . You should look into these problems asap or I will be taking matters into my own hands.
Very upset...
Read moreThe lobby of the Best Western looked inviting, so we decided to try Mulligans after a 7 hour drive. When we arrived they said there was a 15 minute wait and it looked crowded. We had high hopes of a nice dinner. We waited at the bar and never got service, but after about 10 minutes we got a table. The menu had many choices and the beer and wine selection was decent. My husband ordered the BBQ plate and I ordered a small Caesar salad and a pizza. We overheard our waitress tell another table she was new and this was her first night "on her own". She did a great job. The problem was the actual food. When my husband got his plate he looked it over and said "suspicious". Usually good BBQ comes with the sauce on the side, a sign of pride in the meat itself. His was smothered in sauce. My salad was huge pieces of lettuce that had to be cut several times to be bite size and the produce looked like it needed to be washed. The pizza toppings were good (green pepper, onion, pepperoni) but the crust was cold and "bready" and the sauce bland. Thank god for pino noir and IPA to wash down some food, we were hungry and had to eat. If the BBQ, salad and pizza were all very substandard, I would be unwilling to try anything else on the Mulligans menu. Not many choices in the area, so this may be the best thing going in Raton. Next time we need to spend the night in Raton we might actually go to Denny's across the street. I know they serve a nice southwest chicken salad that surpasses anything we got tonight. Nice people and...
