I left a previous 3 star review after my first visit but feel the need to edit it after my second. Not only could you not tell the difference between my old man's burrito and fajita, both were just hamburger wrapped in a different size tortilla, but my quesadilla was completely inedible. It was mostly grease, cheap hamburger and a little cheese in the corner. It came with diarrhea that I assume was refried beans and rice. No sour cream, no guac with either meal. The reason they only got three stars previously was monster indigestion and the fact they charged me $2 for extra sour cream. A price more fitting for guac . . . When I pointed out the vileness and lack of sides to the waitress she said that's what a quesadilla is . . . Though she did take it off the bill at least since it went uneaten. The waitress herself barely grunted at us, never smiled, and slammed our food on the table. How they have ever gotten good reviews I'll never know. What I do know is, your money is far better spent at Cafe Sebago across the street. They actually have a quesadilla on their menu as well and their waitresses smile. If you can make it to Portland go for...
Read moreServiceable Mexican food at a good value.
I went to A La Mexicana on a Sunday night with my girlfriend. It was surprisingly busy.
The margaritas are 9.00 for house and 10.00 for flavored. You might think that's expensive but they were huge so actually it seemed like a pretty good value. My only problem with them was that they were not served cold as they could have been.
My girlfriend got fajitas. She said they were really good but I noticed it was served with tinfoil between the hot plate and the food. Less dishes to wash I guess? It is handy for the inevitable leftovers.
I got the combination platter with chile poblano (aka chile relleno), enchilada, and rice and beans. It was a lot of food. At 8.99 it was a great deal. I thought the quality was just okay. The Chile Relleno was basically a pool of cheese and the enchilada sauce was lacking flavor. You won't be disappointed but you won't love it either.
I would come back here if I was in the area and craving Mexican. I wouldn't go out of my way to search this...
Read moreWe had been super skeptical about trying this place, but we had recently heard good things about the restaurant so we got a pretty big takeout order to try things out. We ordered guacamole, which was really good, but did not automatically come with chips. I had the el gordo burrito with chicken which was absolutely huge, but the chicken seemed to have no seasoning, unfortunately. We also got the steak fajitas, which again, sadly, were bland. The rice and the salsa verde were also bland. We did get a couple desserts and they were super tasty! The flan is definitely worth trying! Service was great, the employee over the phone and at the counter was very nice. They also do a 3% discount on cash payments. We were a little disappointed by our entrees, but we will definitely return for guacamole and dessert! Edit to add: honestly, we ate less than half of our food. And although there were some good aspects of this experience, we’re left sad and hungry after paying so much for low...
